"We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the whole world, a nation of bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not just Whores for power and oil, but killer whores with hate and fear in our hearts. We are human scum, and that is how history will judge us. No redeeming social value. Just whores. Get out of our way, or we'll kill you. Who does vote for these dishonest ****************s? Who among us can be happy and proud of having all this innocent blood on our hands? Who are these swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid little rich kids like George Bush? They are the same ones who wanted to have Muhammad Ali locked up for refusing to kill gooks. They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are the racists and hate mongers among us; they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. ******** them." Hunter Thompson Amen.
I think it's from his 2003 book, "Kingdom of Fear." http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0684873249/ref=sib_dp_pt/002-8434126-3444033#reader-link
The only significant action prior to Iraq was Afghanistan, which had widespread, international support as well as bipartisan backing at home. If the Iraq War was not part of Thompson's rational for writing what you quoted, what -- in your opinion -- was? "A Nazi monster....bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully....human scum....whores....proud of having all this innocent blood on our hands"?
We were clearly gonna invade Iraq in Sep 2002, so how can we be sure this book was written before, or after that? In reference to Afghanistan, Iraq, or something else entirely?
That's what I'm asking. In any case, comparing the USA to the Nazis is worn-out hyperbole.* There is simply no comparison. I understand Thompson's dissatisfaction and disgust with the current administration and those who support it, but, by coming off so hysterically, he is not helping. * If I insulted anyone's intelligence by pointing out that obvious fact, please accept my apologies.
Looks like Hunter got weekday release from the Psychotic Ward! Or he just another spayed liberal unhappy about election!
You know, we really oughta have some second thoughts about rounding up certain ethnic groups, putting them in unventilated box cars, and sending the them to forced labor camps, then gassing them when they are not useful, taking all their gold teeth and hair, and then roasting them in ovens. Not to mention those nastly little medical experiments we're doing. I mean, that's just such bad PR for the USA, doncha think?? Sig heil, baby!!

What's the matter, Karl? You don't like being labeled a flag-sucking half-wit? By the way, if conservatives can throw around the word "liberal" like it's a slur, I reserve the right to call them Nazis.
My turn! My turn! wrong (rông, rng) adj. Not in conformity with fact or truth; incorrect or erroneous.
Plus it's pretty unlikely that the Russians will be kicking your ass anytime soon. Karl Keller would be a kick-ass name for a SS-Obersturmführer though...
I'll stand by flag-sucking half-wit. Jury's still out on the Nazi thing but not looking too good for Karl et. al.
Just started reading "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72". It's eerily similar to the sentiments expressed by democrats in this past election, the whole "Anybody-But-Nixon" sentiment was strong then like the ABB sentiment is now. Anyhow, I'm only through the first 3 chapters after picking it up last night, but the parallels between the '72 election and the '04 election have already popped up numerous times, and I'm still 10 months away (in the book) from the '72 election.
That's one of my favorite HST books. Personally, I think it should be required reading for Poli Sci majors.
