Hunt Sports Group is out. Precourt Sports Ventures are in. I'm curious if the stadium was included in the deal - or if that stays with HSG.
PSV tells Coleman "The Crew is staying in Columbus." Of course, lying to politicians is as old as politicians lying to the people.
http://www.linkedin.com/pub/anthony-precourt/37/20/830 Looks like the family made its money in energy--maybe the Hunts felt some kinship in trajectory.
I'm not feeling good about this. They said they wouldn't see a MAJ interest. They did. They said they wouldn't sell to a non-local owner. They did. This guy says he's committed to Columbus. We'll see. I haven't been a fan of the Hunts (since Lamar passed) but I don't feel good about this.
Just got this "Today, my family and I introduced Antony Precourt as the new investor-operator of the Columbus Crew. Anthony is a bright, passionate, driven leader, and we believe he will be a great fit for the Crew. We are delighted to welcome him as a partner in MLS, and I am confident that he will do an outstanding job leading the club in the future. Although we are very pleased to welcome Anthony to MLS, today marks a very emotional day for me and my family. Since the earliest days of Major League Soccer, the Columbus Crew has been a beloved part of our family and the source of some of our most cherished memories. From welcoming Brian McBride as the first-ever draft pick in MLS history and helping propel the U.S. Men's National Team to three World Cups with victories over "El Tri," to raising the Nordecke, the MLS Cup and an iconic stadium that would transform the trajectory of professional soccer in the United States - you have always Dared to be Massive. On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank the city of Columbus, the state of Ohio, the Crew players, coaches and staff, our partners, and most importantly, the Crew supporters for helping to cultivate one of the most iconic clubs in MLS. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for allowing us to be a part of it. Sincerely, Clark Hunt and the Hunt family"
As I said before, Ill say again: This guy reminds me of a spoiled brat whos Daddy said here son, Ill buy you a team and have fun with it....
He says he lives in California, will be here often--won't be an absentee owner--will probably get a second home here but doesn't see moving away from the bay. This is the family's first foray into sports.
So PSV is immediately taking over? They don't have to be approved by a vote of the other invester/operators? When it says PSV manages Crew Stadium does that mean HSG still owns it?
Well, he wouldn't be the first spoiled brat in the stadium when you figure in all those at the concession stands... It also sounds like some "evaluate at the end of the year" stuff is making it sound like RW is staying for the rest of the season.
"Our intent is to come in here and let it be status quo for a while." "By the season's end we'll have assessed the situation and start making some changes."
Goal10K - "Close to 7,000," per the new owner. Clark looks thrilled - like when the French saw Lindbergh land in Paris.
He has worked in the financial market for years though. MLS wouldn't just sell to a guy with a bunch of money who would sit around doing nothing. It's not like this is the NFL where you can do nothing and make a ton of money in the process. He will have to work at this if he wants to be profitable.
