Hazing violations. http://www.sacbee.com/2012/08/21/4745384/humboldt-state-says-soccer-team.html Womens soccer is also being investigated.
And let's not let any of us think this only happens at Humboldt State or with the soccer team. Hazing freshmen goes on at most schools in most sports and usually involves copious amounts of alcohol.
I don't think many colleges will be ignoring illegal activities within their athletic programs this year. I heard through a local source (parent of a former Humboldt player) that things would have just passed like normal (Freshman players get drunk, no one cares) except that a third party made an issue of it with the college administration. Since they could no longer claim ignorance, they investigated.
Such activities and other similar mischief sometimes can result in very tragic consequences ... one very sad example from several years ago that involved a college soccer team: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=3466477
