Imagine if this club did this more often where we looked at what kind of player profile is needed and we signed a player with that profile. Incredible.
We needed a CB, whatever profile. I think Rudiger is decent with the ball, as is Alaba, but none of them are worth a darn if they can't at least run. There still seems to be the problem that we don't really have this "profile" of player for midfield or CF/9. A player who can hold possession and distribute. Fed, Jude, Mbappe, etc., all great dribbling the ball and running at the defense but not so great and slowing things down, moving the ball from side to side and holding onto possession. This is why Vini and Rodrygo are so important (ditto Brahim, Modric), they are very good with close ball control and keeping things tidy in tight spaces.
Tap in approach is better for Romano especially with RM where he has no inside info. 🚨 EXCLUSIVE - @FabrizioRomano 🚨Liverpool have the advantage over Real Madrid in the race to sign Dean Huijsen! The Bournemouth defender favours staying in the Premier League...👀 pic.twitter.com/E87ZugTySc— CaughtOffside (@caughtoffside) April 19, 2025
I can give you the name and club of a high ranking executive in europe that gives info to Romano. You can come to the conclusion by yourself too farely easy, once i tell you who it is, a lightbulb would come on. Dude ran a "first day at the office at club _____ where _____ takes charge as _______" for the guy like a linkedin post that they are in business.

When I played at the youth semi pro level, seeing someone younger than you killing it at your level is the point you first start thinking maybe I am not actually Zidane without the bald spot and destined for the balon dor lol, and start seriously considering if this is the right long term career for you. Its a massive reality check, maybe thats what broke Asencio this summer lol.
Oh dudeee. The worst feeling is the first 2 mins you see that player and realize it and your brain is processing it lol. At first you're like that move was a fluke, let me see that again lol. Yeah.... not great. I was selected for an all state team back in college and i showed up....... not cocky but confident that i'll be the best player there maybe there'll be one guy as good as me. And of course when i get there almost everyone is great and there's like 5 dudes better than me and 2 of em far better (the way they moved, their speed just next level). I never had any illusions about being a top class athlete and i pursued a very different path in life as you guys know but that day sure did make some things pretty clear. Good memories though.
Yup awesome memories and I always tell my nephews and nieces to get into sports, I loved it growing up and selfishly to live vicariously through them in case they make it big I am still in touch with some of the super talented people I played with. Its funny how even they didn't make it too far in the pro space, I had no chance lool.
What broke Asencio is his mindset. Those persistent comparisons to Ramos really got to his head, Asencio started acting like Ramos in all the sh!t ways, it even showed on his facial expressions and body language..bro actually believed it and that fvcked him up imo.
304 - Dean Huijsen has made 304 touches in LaLiga 2025/26, a record surpassed by only one player after his first three matches in the competition since the 2005/06 season: Cesc Fàbregas with FC Barcelona in 2011 (311). Starring. pic.twitter.com/RdWMEtb8oY— OptaJose (@OptaJose) September 3, 2025
I don't want to be overly critical of Dean as it's still very early days, but I hope he will improve defensively, particularly in 1v1 situations. He's excellent for ball progression and getting further up the pitch, but having both him and Trent in the line-up might end up being massively detrimental to our defence.
When I was like 13/14 I was just playing at our local club and these two twins who were around 6/8 came on to play with us. They evicirated us not just me, our entire team... They were literally zomming past us with such easy, they would taunt the goalie and then score easily, it was just an eye opener for me. I was never gonna make it pro as I have a heart condition but I realized there me being "pretty good" was not even close lol.
My former neighbor grew up in Malmo and played for Malmo FC and was 18/19 when Zlatan joined the team when he was 15 It was at that moment he said he realized his football career was over. Zlatan was light years better than everyone. He was banging in goals for fun in training as a skinny kid. He said he knew immediately how good he was in the first few minutes. He also said Zlatan is very nice and much more humble and down to earth off camera. Very charitable, and quite generous with time and money back in Sweeden. Apparently he paid for a Malmo reunion for a lot of the players when he was at LA Galaxy and had the club roll out the red carpet for his former teammates. A lot of his act is a persona he created to overcome his background. Rosengaard was not an easy place to escape for an immigrant like Zlatan, especially back then.

I would be surprised if he's able to get anywhere near Sergio Ramos legacy, I don't see it happening and Ramos is already in that Beckenbauer, Maldini, etc., discussion. Fernando Hierro was a midfielder who scored tons of goals, won CL's and Captained the team to multiple titles. Eventually he was doing the ball winning distributor thing from CB when the club loaded up on talent in attack. His height, positioning, reading of the game and ability to organize the defense made it an easy transition.
Ramos is part of the greatest ever CB duo. So yeah, only way to reach Ramos is to displace him or maldini which I find difficult. Having said that, anywhere near great is good enough for me.
There were a lot of growing pains with Ramos. He was very reckless with challenges and shambolic with positioning from 2005-2012. He was an absolutely elite athlete who once had some seasoning, became world class since he could pass the ball at a top level and became much more saavy. Ramos will always be associated with delivering the goal at the big moment to secure La Decima. That’s impossible to replicate. Dean is a much better player than him at his age, but Ramos is miles ahead of him when it comes to athleticism. Dean is on a great start, but his ceiling will be limited due to his lack of athletic ability.
Ramos was also an absolute missile capable of the worst. I truly feel like the football world will never respect him as much as he possibly deserves because they simply don't look at him through a mother's eyes the way we do as Madrid fans. Pepe even moreso. Guy killed his legacy and it had nothing to do with him as a player.
I ********ing hate that Pepe did that because the man was an elite CB, that clip is always brought up, however Pepe matured a lot later and was really good, like really, really good. As for Dean, he's by far my fave player from the new signings and he's what 20 years old ? He will improve a lot overtime as well.
