I don't think many successful individuals openly admit mistakes. Often, the ones that fail the most are the ones who are most successful. Think about it.

If he can't win this game I know he has little time to work with his squad then it will get difficult later down the road

The press already have a certain view of Hugo Sanchez (especially the Mexican press). No matter what he does, it'll never be good enough.

Isn't it sad that the Spanish press is more optimistic about this than the Mexican press.

Why are Mexicans always putting other Mexicans down?

if there was an equivalent to Field Goal percentage in soccer, Mexico's pre-olympic team would have a 15-20%

Random thoughts when thinking about Hugo as a coach (not responding to anyone):

1- He got fired because of the monumental failure of the U23 squad he coached, not because of what the big team was doing.
2- Anyone can win one title in Mexico because of the format (even Lavolpe has!!!), but winning back to back is special.
3- Hugo's performance in direct elimination games (liguilla) is pretty good. The current Copa del Rey might be too soon, but watch for Almeria next year.

I think in the senior team, he was doing less than was expected.

he promised wins, but he won nothing in any tournament other than a regular third place in copa america and 2nd place in the gold cup.

then again, he set those expectations himself, so u can argue that hugo failed himself in both the olympic and senior team. :D

I do wish him nothing but good luck in spain. I think he is capable of learning from past mistakes. and If he does learn and pwn in spain, then he will come back to headcoach el tri. But somehow not before aguirre.

The thing is, the senior team was playing with no direction. They did not have a strategy they were just kinda playing and it wasn't working. Sven's team at least has some sort of strategy just haven't produced any results. Maybe it is the players?

You started comparing Hugo with Mourinho about the bragging and all that. Hugo can brag and not be criticized, (Mourinho was criticized for his arrogance by the way), when he wins something of real importance in a better league or an important competition, like Mourinho has.

Because he promised a World Cup championship, but ultimately delivered very little. When you open your mouth and promise things, you will be held responsible if you don't come through.

Why should Hugo have been fired? Well the guy in this video pretty much sums it up...

He is an egocentric, disillusioned optimist that is unable to analyze a situation at face value because of his stupidity and ignorance. This was summed up in the report he delivered after the Olympic qualifying fiasco where he failed to admit any responsibility for not qualifying and blamed everything on the players. I wish I could say that he will learn from coaching in Spain and come back a better coach, but i think that is above him.

    Oh, this guy too..

I still have a very hard time believing that there are people out there that think Hugo should not have been terminated.

Hugo is a mental midget. This man's inability to logically reason puts him closer to animals than to people (Just look at what he says at 2:12 and 3:48). He was a great player who had great skill, but now that he can't depend on his legs to succeed he has shown what he really is, a disillusioned idiot.

I cant believe im apologizing for hugo but hey, it was in style in 08 so might as well. :D

any human being can right himself as long as that person is willing.

I have faith that Hugo will take this new opportunity to rise up and seize the moment.

Totally agree, emphasizing that the key is in bold above. Someone that thinks there is nothing to right, is not willing to right themselves because, in their mind, there is nothing to right, therefore, there is no will to do so.

Re: Hugo Sanchez (Tecnico) at Almeria

willingness is not a solid state.

    it can change.

    with time to reflect.

    thats what I hope for

Re: Hugo Sanchez (Tecnico) at Almeria

No, you are missing the point. Willingness is simply a result of someone's perception telling them that change is needed.

If that person does not think that he needs to change, then willingness is thrown completely out of the picture and is irrelevant. He has a perception problem, not a willingness problem. He does not think he needs to change and therefore, he wont.
