Colorado blows 2-0 lead against Dallas but none other than Chris Carrieri wins it 3-2 in the 87th minute. This huge result means the Quakes job is clear: 1. Beat Columbus at Spartan 2. Don't lose by 3 goals in LA 3. Beat LA at Spartan If we do these 3 "simple" things, there is a 95% probability of winning the division. Dallas would have to win 3 straight games to pass us, and no team has done that all year. LA would have to blow out the Fire in Chicago to pass us. (Also, two draws with LA would be just as good as one win, thanks to Dallas not getting even one point today).
It gets very interesting down the stretch. Plain and simple for the Quakes, win and hope for some help. 6 points might be enough, and with 2 home and 1 road games left it might be easy on paper given their home and road records. In terms of tiebreakers, Quakes over Dallas in the series. (3 wins and 1 loss) while right now the Galaxy and Quakes are tied with one win and one loss and on aggregate. The last two games can very will determine the western division and the regular season/Supporter's Shield. The objective is simple: Win the division and control home field. Cheers!
At any rate, our players better pull their heads out of their asses and focus on winning these last few games. With our abysmal road record, home field advantage for the playoffs won't be merely a luxury, it's almost a necessity.
As well as a lifesize cardboard-cutout of Ronnie Ekelund, signed by the Great Dane himself.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I'm glad to see we're not the only ones Carrieri reamed in Colorado. Life will really be sweet if DC United can ream Dallas like they did us the last 2 weeks.
Well well well, looks like the Metrostars have decided to throw a wrench into the playoff picture. By dumping the Burn in Dallas 3-1 tonight, the Metros have insured that, as expected, Dallas will not win their final 3 games. Thus the Quake magic number vs. Dallas drops to 4. Instead of needing to beat Columbus and LA, we now can get by with a draw vs the Crew if LA fails to win in Chicago. We still need to win one against LA though, and LA is clearly the hottest team in the league. Starting to look good though!
You mean after us, right? We'll get by, with a little help from our friends... L.A.'s road record isn't stellar. It's better than ours, but not by that much. Unfortunately, Chicago hasn't been playing that great at home lately, but we can hope, right?? GO QUAKES!! GO AWAY GALAXY!!
A giant "thank you" card to the metros for their destruction of the burn tonight. A very poor attendance showing from the dallas faithful though, only 7,910 or so.There must have been some miserable weather out there to keep the people away like that because they usually do better. Oh well, the trolls might leave us alone this week because i'm fairly sure we can beat those numbers.
i saw the poor attendance too, but I dont think it had anything to do with the weather. i believe the weather was fine. but i loved the victory. now if only the Quakes can win a game, or two, or three
Quakes & Galaxy can go 2-1 over the next three and the Quakes finish top as long as the Galaxy does not pick up than a three goal victory over both the Fire and the Quakes....should each team draw/lose this weekend, than it is very, very interesting....
