Good stuff from Haydon. The Saturday Wash Times is worth a quarter for his article alone :)

Also, a talented English First Division striker looking for a change of scenery will be visiting the club soon for a tryout.

    HHHhhhmmm...

Anyone have a list of first divsion English forwards who are out of contract?

Not placing all my eggs in the Ali Curtis basket.

Hudson's quote alone says it all: "Ali is not a precision player"

    You are absolutely correct.

But sometimes changing things up a bit makes things work.

Ali Curtis is a "blue collar worker" player, something that has not been seen on the field for DC United.

At the very least this will cause a defender to defend him, freeing up some space for the other forward or a streaking midfielder, i.e. Convey.

It will also tire defenders, by making them work to defend. Which could be a good thing if Eskandarian is substituted in towards the end of the game.

Ali + Quintanilla up top? To start? You've got to be kidding me.

i think it may be branko stupar from derby. derby was relegated to the first division last year or something like that. in another thread his name was brought up because he is out of contract with derby and also one of his friends that played with him in derby for quite awhile (powell) is likely to join the rapids.

If Ali does provide some assistance to us, it will come in the form of the first touch on the ball in the oponent's third.

I see Ali racing down the field to get to a ball, and then dropping a pass to either Eliseo/Alecko or to our midfielders who (if it's Bobby) will shoot, or (if it's Marco) will pass it back to the defense.

The other thing that Ali brings (that I don't like) is his ability to look like he has been fouled. He wines more than any other player on United. Granted, he does get abused when on the field, but he seems to get more frustrated when he doesn't get the call.

I does suck that they're putting one of our faster players in on the day that field is going to be very slow. Why didn't they use Ali in the Dallas game?

whatever... it's not like we're going to win anyway... (just preparing myself to be surprised)
