From the Washington Post: Besides being troubled by his club's lack of scoring, Hudson was outraged United wasn't awarded a penalty kick in the ninth minute when Santino Quaranta was taken down by Jason Kreis. "We're not looking for favors, we're not looking for handouts, but we're looking for fairness," Hudson said. The U.S. Soccer Federation, which oversees officiating in this country, "better start waking up." Later, in an expletive-filled close to his news conference, he added, "Quaranta gets butchered -- butchered! -- in that . . . box, and we don't get a . . . call."
Parrish, I don't know who you are, but posting this here... at this time is really in bad taste and should lead to a cyber-ass-kicking. There was a lot of bad calling in that game.. but EVERY PERSON IN MLS would gladly give that bastard Hudson his penalty kick in exchange for RONNIE O'BRIEN'S BROKEN LEG FROM THE ****HEAD KOVALENKO! So... who should be more upset? Hudson or Jeffries? Next time, don't be an idiot. Tommy Mack
Don't you know me anymore Tommy? I thought the audacity of the quote spoke for itself and besides I was too shocked by it to formulate any kind of coherent response. I haven't been able to sufficiently process it yet, or I'd be outraged. After that game, after the second broken leg by his squad in as many months, to see Hudson using a word like "fairness" is ludicrous, to hear him complain about a "butchering" is absurd. To read him essentially threatening the officials is frightening. We've seen the kind of violence he's capable of overseeing, haven't we? As far ar bad tase and idiocy are concerned, I don't disagree with you. But, be fair, I'm not the one who generated the quote. I forgot the URL earlier: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A11269-2003May3.html
My apologies, Parrish. I did not realize you were posting it in outrage of it's contents. I totally misread you and thought you were, in some sick way, giving a counterpoint to the Burn fans' anger. In light of this knowledge, I'm with you: Hudson needs an broken glass enema. Tommy Mack
That looked like a clear penalty to me also, and I'm a Burn fan. No one got ball, because it kept rolling towards the keeper. The officiating in this league is horrible.
I agree with the penalty kick, but I really dont think Hudson should be complaining when one of his men got away with murder out there. Dema didnt even get a card and Hudson is whining about officiating??? DC should have been playing a man down, and his player should get fined and/or suspended for that tackle, and he wants to whine about a missed PK call. I agree though, the officiating just plain sucks here.
Agree 100% yanks02. What is very worrisome is that now you have 2 players like Stoichkov & Kovalenko playing under a guy with absolutely no scruples. This league could get really ugly.
Hduson should be complaining about the fact that DC couldn't score despite pretty much dominating the game. For him to blame the official is pretty absurd.
I agree that the Kovalenko tackle was a foul and probably warranted a yellow card since it was such a physical challenge but was from the side. However, the sad part about O'Brien's injury is that the referee should have called a handball on O'Brien right before the incident. That would have stopped the play an nobody would be injured. The referee's lack of control on the game led to tempers flaring on both sides and now a player is out for the season most likely. It is really sad to see the league scarred so bad by such poor officiating over the last two years in particular. It does not seem that MLS is getting the officiating to improve at all. With the lack of scoring and the lack of quality officiating don't be surprised to see the attendance dropping over the next few weeks. It is getting really old.
Yeah the refs suck for all teams. Not just your average bad calls, what goes around come around - but plain-ass incompetence. That Kreis tacke was a PK - not doubt. How could that not be called. And another thing - Ray Hudson shold shut the hell up for a change. Yeah he was a good TV announcer, he had one good year in Miami when he didn't win anything and he has been sucking ass ever since. Shut up already.
yea how many times is he gonna jump off the bench to complain, shut up dude, you odviously are a sucky coach who had one fluke season.
I agree, and not because I'm partial to United. The replays speak for themselves but even in real-time it was obvious. As for O'Brien's broken leg it's a real shame but if you watch the challenge in real time and on replays there's nothing in it. I honestly didn't see any intent to injure, and it looked like a solid challenge to me....not grossly mistimed etc...
I just find this amazing. You honestly think that was a fair challenge? It didn't matter what timing he used he went straight through the player. If he'd been half a second quicker he'd still have gone through the player. And that doesn't even take into account the two-feet, studs up & leap. You have no idea about intent & neither do I but it doesn't matter. He created the situation by jumping in two feet up therefore it is his fault. End of story.
MLS reviews calls over the weekend and issues cards/fines/suspensions after the fact. Is there any news from MLS yet in response to this tackle?
I was reading in the DaMN that the Burn officially asked MLS to review the play, Jefferies is upset naturally.
