According to the November 3rd issue of The Daily Mirror, U.K., Ray Hudson's set his sights on Leeds United player David Batty: DISCARDED Leeds United star David Batty, 33, could swap his Elland Road nightmare for America. Batty, unable even to command a place in the reserves, has become a target for the Major League Soccer outfit Washington DC United. Boss Ray Hudson, the former Newcastle midfielder, said: "David is just the type of player I want here." I'm afraid I couldn't find an actual link. Grains of salt not included with this information. I'm proud of the effort Hudson is making towards finding new talent While other MLS coaches are busy admiring how great they are, Hudson is scavenging the world-Europe, Asia, South America I hear that next on Hudson's agenda is Argentina
I could see this happening, (he's a Hudson kind of player) He could easily take Richie's place, (except he may be too tall, 5' 8"). They call him a real Yorkshire Terrier" of a player. He's 34. His last transfer was 4 million pounds, but that was 1998, and they got a number of good years out of him.
Thanks for the fixed verbiage on my post Lowecifer! Maybe he'll get lucky and in addition to talent and beer, he may actually find Anna Nicole Smith down there
Maybe Antony DeAvila is still plying his trade - he should be old enough now to be "el papa petufo". His stature would fit right in. Memo to Catherine Marquette - Meet the Team Day at an amusement park would be rather boring as only half the team could go on rides
He's driving me freaking batty alright! The next rumor will have it that Hudson is going to offer contracts to Pele and Maradona. When asked why, he'll reply with a glint of distant memory, "Aye, they remind me of me days with the Fusion...*sigh*...If I could only capture those days again. We were a f**ing force, I tell ya. With spit, piss and vinegar, 11 men going into battle as one. I think these two can bring that attitude to my current team, and maybe we can be as good as Miami."
It's never going to happen, but it's like I said on the last thread about this - if Batty does come to DCU, our team will be _significantly_ better for it. He's old, but he ain't washed up. He was one of Leeds' best players last season, and the only reason he doesn't play now is because his coach (Terry Venables) doesn't understand how to use players who don't play a game solely based on finesse.
I added Batty to my FIFA 2003 DC team - he is an impact player. Oh, and I like the rumors - they're fun.
"Batty was linked with a move to MLS, thanks again to Ray Hudson insisting on saying "He would be great for us" to anyone in the UK national tabliods. This is becoming a problem, imho. Batty, who is represented by HN Sports - who TSV work with - has not been approached, and doesn't want to leave England. End of story" - Chris Bergin www.ussocceruk.com
