Ho boy, this is bad, bad, bad. I imagine this has been caught on film and this will be ugly: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/06/14/international/middleeast/14CND-IRAQ.html?hp Minutes after the explosion, a crowd of young men poured into the streets and rushed toward the wreckage. As Iraqi police officers stood by, the mob stomped on the hoods of the crushed vehicles and smashed the windows, and lit American flags on fire. "Oh Ali!" some yelled. "Long live Sadr!" shouted others, referring to radical Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr. A squad of American soldiers arrived shortly afterward and was greeted by a hail of rocks. The soldiers stayed for a few minutes and then pulled back.
Terrorism was down last year!!!!!! Oops. Never mind. Might as well blame that on Tenet, too: http://www.csmonitor.com/newsinbrief/brieflies.html#USA7:14:37
How can a stable and representative government be formed under these circumstances. I mean Bush's pups are already born. http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0614/dailyUpdate.html US officials told Knight-Ridder Sunday that [the] insurgents have several key objectives: to undermine the new Iraqi government by making people too afraid to work with it; and to force continued US protection of that government in order to make it look like the US is still calling the shots in Iraq; and to keep alive the idea that the "struggle" is between Muslims and foreigners. The surge in violence over the weekend in Iraq emphasized this strategy. MSNBC reports that two officials of the new Iraqi governments were assassinated as they left their homes for their offices. The Washington Post reports that a massive suicide car bomb Monday morning in Baghdad's commercial district killed 12, including several foreign contractors. Another suicide bomb Monday, targeting Iraqi police officers, killed four. The Post reports that Iraqi citizens, angry at the lack of security and protections, responded to the bombings by chanting anti-US and Iraqi government slogans at the bombing sites.
This is a big mess! It's called quagmire. Check this out - Richard Clarke said that 'Iraq could be much more of a problem for America than if Saddam had stayed in power' Worst. President. Ever.
And the torture story keeps giving and giving and giving: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5197853/site/newsweek/ While its certainly hard to work up any sympathy at all for the Al Quaeda terrorists, the Bushies have worked overtime turning this story in the scandal it continues to be. Here is some unsolicited advice for the Bushies: 1. Apologize (yes, continue doing so) 2. Admit everything. All of it. 3. Find a fall guy (Hint: Cheney) 4. Apologize some more. Torture story is now in rear view. Turn to Task #5: 5. Get McCain on ticket (preferably as Prez, but VP would do nicely for the Reps).
Maybe things aren't so bad, http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...u=/ap/20040615/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_al_zarqawi
I am afraid it falls on deaf ears.. The regulars on this board are so obsessed with negative occurences, they wont give any credit at all, even when it is due..
Great stuff. The incompetence of the Bush administration enables terrorist activity, and their response is to blame Kerry supporters for wanting it. Stupid is as stupid does.
Ha ha ha ha That was good. Bush should pull out of the Iraq commitment early like Spain to make a strong statement that terrorist tactics do not prevail nor work to change our politics. Thanks Spain, for leading the way! That's the way to stand strong when a few guys terrorize you!
Iran massing troops on Iraqi border. http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20040615-055649-4707r.htm Beirut, Lebanon, Jun. 15 (UPI) -- Iran reportedly is readying troops to move into Iraq if U.S. troops pull out, leaving a security vacuum. The Saudi daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat, monitored in Beirut, reports Iran has massed four battalions at the border. Al-Sharq al-Awsat quoted "reliable Iraqi sources" as saying, "Iran moved part of its regular military forces towards the Iraqi border in the southern sector at a time its military intelligence agents were operating inside Iraqi territory."
How's the occupation Going...? ... It's going just as good as the U.S. and U.K. occupation of western Europe when they helped liberate it from Nazi fascism. And yes, there were thousands more deaths thereafter the final day in Berlin of August 1945. It's called WAR people... that is what we're currently in. Do you expect an exchange of handshakes from irregular enemies? Perhaps noone hates war more than I do, yet some have been fought for the betterment of progress. Indeed we have encountered troubles in this continuing commitment, yet I think it's clear this war in the long-run will fall in the category of 'progress' at the end of it all.
Not to beat a dead horse, but remind me if WW2 was started as a pre-emptive war based on cooked evidence, weapons of mass destruction that were never found, and as a smoke screen or diversion to the authentic threat of terrorism by Al-Qaeda in other parts of the world? Apples and oranges, my friend.
Hi! I'm Frank Cunha, and I approve this message. Pull out of Iraq now. Bush enables terrorists by fighting them. Kerry will apologize and bring the troops home. The terrorists will be happy then. (This message brought to you by the Friends of Frank Cunha).
Cheney is at it again: http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/South/06/14/cheney.terrorism.ap/index.html Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday that Saddam Hussein had "long-established ties" with al Qaeda, an assertion that has been repeatedly challenged by some policy experts and lawmakers. The vice president offered no details backing up his claim of a link between Saddam and al Qaida. ----------- OTOH, the article about al-Zarqawi and his merry band of homicidal maniacs are getting squeezed could be really good news. I remain cautious, however. I fear these homicide bombers will prove to be a resiliant lot.
Do some people have a tendency of posting rumors on these baords? Just curious. It might explain the reason for this post. Wouldn't it be wise to use some logical analysis when reading into these unreliable press stories? Why would Iran risk international ex-communication by possibly invading Iraq when USA pulls out? Nontheless, I'm positive NATO, U.N, and the World would respond if Iran decided to pull such a stunt without warrant. Iran going into Iraq alone when Americans leave? When we already appointed an Iraqi interim President and government? My goodness... use some common sense before posting. These boards are hilarious with so many liberals trying to find any reason to bash Bush or the Iraqi commitment. By the way, since you believe everything you read, here you go: http://www.nationalenquirer.com
I am still waiting to hear Kerry's plan for how to solve the Middle Eastern problem and terrorism issues .... if Iran attacks Iraq that would be a major mistake - it won't happen. They are not as stupid as Sadr.
He ain't got one, at least, one that goes beyond moronic platitudes about "sharing the burden." It's deceitful for him to suggest this. While I agree that world leaders who won't listen to Bush would listen to Kerry, by next January 20, it'll be too freakin' late. I don't hold it too much against Kerry, because what is he supposed to say: "By January 20, things might have turned around, in which case I'll just continue the policies that are working. More likely is that Iraq will be crushed by chaos, and we're going to either increase the size of the army by 2 or more divisions and go in there and establish order, or get the hell out the best way we can." I don't think Kerry can get elected telling the truth about Iraq. But then, Bush can't either.
I think Mike Tyson is over there consulting: ""I want to rip out his heart and feed it to him. I want to kill people. I want to rip their stomachs out and eat their children! Praise be to Allah!" " -- Mike Tyson
