apparently some think the best thing for TH would be ManU terminating his contract and saying he's not worthy of playing for them ?
Considering that the problem at ManU has been more with scoring than conceding goals, perhaps Tim's apparently better attitude & willingness to discuss an extension is preferred to Roy's sulking & desire to be a free agent? ManU has spent a lot more on underacheiving field players than keepers.
Caroll sounds like a guy you could root for both os those guys are acting like the #1 spopt is gonna be theirs next season. the battle between them is going to somoething fierce and will hopefully make both keepers better
Good for Tim. If this is what he wants, more power to him. He didn't have a good year, but aside from the one scuffed ball, his second stint in goal this season at MUFC wasn't that bad. I'm hoping beyond hope he gets a shot to play in the FA Cup. I know he probably isn't going to be "the answer" at that position for that team (god, who WILL be?), but it will be interesting to watch. And even if he stays the whole time (of his contract) and sees only spot duty, he will still be in his prime when the contract is up. I know people would rather see him start at someplace like Leicester than possibly sit on the bench at MUFC, but can you really blame him for wanting to give it a try. Tim has become my favorite GK for us, not because he is the best, because Keller and Friedel are better than Tim is now, and might or might not always be. But he's got a wonderful attitude that others (Landycakes, are you listening?) might want to pick up on. The guy is 2 for 2 in games that decide cups, including this one last year. Give him a chance to go 3/3, Alex.
Well...his resigning isnt the surprising bit though, is it? What will be surprising is if ManU doesent go out and get someone else as well, and let Roy Carroll go. If Tim is to be handed the #1 shirt, THAT would be a surprise, and I'm not sure I read that into this.
the independent piece had a really interesting sidenote on the new ball in play, designed to increase goals (which it has), and the wicked movement that comes at the end (why would that be, it regains shape, it slows?). Carroll notes that a lot of good goalkeepers are making a lot of mistakes this year. I have to admit, i've seen more shocking mistakes this year than I remember seeing in a single season, a lot of drops and fumbles that result in either tap in goals or missed sitters. Have I just missed this discussion, has the ball been a topic all year long? Obviously, doesn't excuse someone in man to man comparison, as they'd both be playing with the same ball
best post on this subject, especialy the last sentance, right on. Let's not forget they probably getting him for cheep, they can always loan him out, sell him,or he can be a back-up or he can be the number 1.
I've always felt that Tim was better than his record this year so I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that sees things this way. He deserves a better chance than he's got and it looks like he might get it.
