Sorry if this thread has been posted before, and if it has the mods can close this and post a link, but how would you define yourself politically?
Economically conservative, Socially centered. Here in Chile always vote right wing, another good giveaway is my sig
Has "Luxembergist Socialist" been taken yet? I've read a few of her essays/letters. In an online 'quiz' (I can't recall the link, sorry), the resultant grid had "left," "right" (X axis), and "Authoritarian" at the top of the Y axis, "Libertarian" at the bottom of the Y. My result was WAY toward the lower left corner, for what that's worth.
Whenever I take those online political quizzes, I'm halfway between center and left, and just a bit off of center towards libertarian.
this is how I scored on this site I was a bit surprised but I think in general it's pretty accurate. I'm somewhere in between Nelson Mandela and The Dalai Lama, two of my heroes.
Funnily enough, most democrats typically show up more to the libertarian side than the authoritarian side. The truth is they really do like freedom, they just don't like to admit it.
It also said that people who score around where I just scored are often libertarian socialists and after reading the wiki article of libertarian socialism I actually like the concept, though I think I'd take a bit more moderate approach than most real libertarian socialists.
Cool. I think the bottom right and upper left categories are rarest so it's rather interesting. Who do you support for the U.S. presidential election?
Neither, Wanted Ron Paul from a neutral perspective. You got really high Libertarian points eh. Is there a country that practices what you got? Cause the only country (Sort Of) the follows what I like is Hong Kong.
And imo Ron Paul was an extreme bottom right candidate so I guess it makes sense. The closest candidate to me was Nader though and I agree with Nader's views except for his saying that democrats and republicans are the same, which is an outright lie. Also, I can't forgive him for costing Gore the election.
If you like Hong Kong, you probably would like Singapore, New Zealand, Switzerland (kinda), Ireland, or even the Czech Republic
Yeh, If I was American i would go 3rd party candidate. Although I kind of agree that the end result in democrats or republicans is the same...For example the democrats went on and on bout how they should pull from Iraq but when the people, following that message, chose em to do it, they didnt do anything. Which is what I think the Obama Candidacy will be like, he has great ideas but the democrats are too cowardly to support him all the way.
I need to do more research but I can't really think of a country that is truly in the bottom left category. Most countries are naturally authoritarian I think because those are the types who run for office. If we get the presidency along with strong majorities in the house and senate, I expect radical changes in policies. Especially economically. Our foreign policy will not really change it will just be smarter.
Left/Libertarian Internationalist. I'm a civil libertarian on social issues, a moderate liberal on the government's role in regulating a capitalist economy, and a Wilsonian/liberal interventionist on foreign policy.
I thought I was pretty centre, and sure enough, according to that test, this is me... I've never seen any point in trying to pigeonhole myself into any political term though.
