On Feb. 28, FIFA's interpreting committee issued this statement:
Here's the actual press release: http://www.fifa.com/en/display/mrel,74381.html

So, what does this ruling mean for OT in MLS, in the regular season and in the playoffs, and how will the league respond to this announcement?

Since when has MLS followed FIFA anyway. I could be wrong but isn't one FIFA rule that you can't on Astroturf and another rule that you can only have 3 subs a game (MLS plays 3+1 GK).

    *Other Option

Games tied at the end of regulation will be decided by setting two 5 - player teams of monkeys against each other... first to have all 5 monkeys killed loses... Bob Bradley will be the first to "bend" the rule by using members of the Empire Supporters Club, which most Zoologists tend to consider only slightly more closely related to monkeys than apes (they're kind of a grey area, an offshoot of both).... his gambit will pay off though as the ESC members will tear Bobo, Cuddles, Mr. Winkles, Sparky, and Bashful, the "Flying Monkeys" (a clever and witty 'Wizard of Oz' reference which the Wizards fans have taken to using in referring to their Monkey Squad) as their known, to pieces to give their Metros a much needed away playoff win..

The IFAB with a bit of cajoling from ole Sepp Blatter will adopt this method of settling tied games and it will be used in the 2010 World Cup, which will be won by the United States over Germany in the Casablanca Grande'Stade though not without controversy (one of the US's monkeys looks and speaks oddly like Dob Garber).

A year later and after much debate Dirtbikes will be integrated into the sport of soccer... it all pretty much goes downhill from there.

Monkees? Monkees! How STOOPID is THAT? ;)

I say a bra and panties cage match. I think that is more along the lines of what is on Bladder's mind anyway.

I actually voted for what I would like - drop OT during regular season and play the full 30 in the playoffs.

Funny stuff about the Metrostars and Blatter and his sexist thoughts

I think MLS is happy with what we did last year and will not change for this season, unless they already made that decision (guessing not).

FIFA wouldn't expect to us to change our rules midseason, so I wouldn't be surprised that for 2005 we go to no OT except for the playoffs - then two 15s.

I would just like to have it the most simple way.

drop the silly (but no-where near as silly as the shoot out) 10 min overtime deal. Let the real result stand.

playoffs are played over 2 legs, with the team higher in the standings getting the 2'nd leg at home.

If the score is even after the two legs, then 30 min of extratime. If there is no winner after 30 min, then go to penalties.

It is what most of us are used to anyway.
