I think this thread has outlived it's usefulness (in oh-so-many ways.)

 

I received a very pointed complaint about my closing this thread.

Closing threads has been my tool of choice as mod, mostly just to ratchet down the temperature a bit. I was accused of silencing people by doing so, and to be frank, I think that is laughable. There are lots of other threads, no one has been "silenced." In fact, I give y'all a lot of leeway to be yourselves. We know who is a prick, we know who is argumentative and who needs the last word, we know who is petulant, we know who post irrelevant sh!t. But we also know who is kind, considerate, thoughtful, detailed and funny (certainly not me on the latter.) In other words, everyone gets to be who they are.

As always, if someone thinks that I have closed a thread prematurely, please, feel free to start a new thread. All I am trying to do is get everyone to take a break. This thread is a vital topic -- America is crumbling away after all -- and if someone has thoughts, hopefully without the derision, post away.

I've also said that I don't have to be mod. If someone else wants this gig, well, feel free. Well, I had someone call my bluff and he said he wants to be mod. I told him to talk to Dark Knight. So this might be a time for the changing of the guard.

I'm gonna leave this thread closed until someone decides they have something relevant and wants to start the convo anew.
