Actually, there were several parts of the act of settlement that were quite positive, as the google AI overview mentions...

The Act of Settlement is a 1701 English act of Parliament that established a Protestant line of succession to the British throne, prohibiting Catholics from ascending to the throne. It also reinforced parliamentary control over the monarchy by requiring royal consent for wars and establishing judicial independence by stipulating judges could only be removed by both houses of Parliament. The act secured a Protestant succession after the childless Queen Anne and was the foundation for the British constitutional monarchy as it exists today.

There are a couple of things there that you guys might want to look at replicating now with king donny tiny hands :D

I'm surprised the administration hasn't taken that down as an attack on White People.

I printed a copy of that and left in my desk drawer when I cleaned out my office after retiring from DoD this past spring.

Obviously, the Act of Settlement used to apply to the Trece Colonias. We rebelled. Sadly, the American Revolution bar in my county doesn't open until Thursday.

Bravo, comrade. Before you left, I hope you scheduled "plenty of conferences when there is more critical work to be done."

I keep noticing a lot of “ignored content” here, after someone alluded to it deciding to stop harping on Mamdani or Brummie or something.

    Has it stopped?

Going to public school in MD I heard all about this but it was overstated and had no continuing effect. Catholicism was banned in MD in 1689 the same year the English got rid of James II. Of course this wasn't taught in history class.

Your instinct is correct. You're arguing with someone that is blaming the election of Trump on the brown people (Arab Americans)

    Wrong.

Arab Americans went for Trump in record numbers and abandoned Democrats when it mattered most, they were helpful to Trump. But there's plenty of blame to go around.

I haven't seen them lately at the 2 places where I am used to seeing them. They are not at Audi Field because DC United wouldn't be gauche enough to host a playoff game. I'm not sure why they are not at Union Station.

Went to the 9:30 club last Wednesday to see a show. The NG were hanging around the Cardozo/U Street Metro as soon as we exited onto 10th street.

On a separate (and related) note, I am on a few DMV reddit threads and people in the Woodbridge, Burke, Centreville-type areas are seeing more homeless camps. A user from Woodbridge noted that he's never seen one in Woodbridge since the GFC. Even someone from Poolesville, MD, which is pretty far from DC, saw one. The NG are just pushing the homeless into other areas than actually fixing anything. I doubt the exburbs will be equipped to help them during the harsher winter months.

My wife and I saw a few in the Marine Barracks in Southeast. It was like--come on, guys, we all know this is performative and all but having some bored NG guys from out of state hanging around providing 'security' on the sidewalks literally in front of the Marine Barracks? Not even trying to make sense.

I live in the Woodbridge area, and while they may be more visible now, we've had homeless camps around here for decades. I used to do outreach to some of them, collecting donations and delivering them by foot on Saturdays. It's not something we're completely unused to, at least in eastern PW County.

Depending on where that other user was talking about, I do know that some camps got cleared out roughly a decade or so ago for different reasons; in one case I know of, one unhoused camper was bringing his minor grandkids to the camp, at the same time a large number of younger, hard-partying types had also moved in because their former camp a few blocks away got cleared out to make way for construction. That attracted the attention of social services, and the land-owner--who had previously tolerated the long-time residents of what had been an almost stable "tent city".

I do see more panhandling and other signs of homeless activity elsewhere in the county now, more so than before. There is a growing population in the western part of the county, around the I-66/Sudley Road area. A sign that the unhoused population are indeed being pushed further out (and growing in numbers, one suspects).

But I kinda doubt this is all directly a result of the NG push, honestly. I just think homelessness is getting worse, and with more sprawl there are more places in the exurbs where there's a critical mass of traffic lights and shoppers within a short walk of a small wooded area. Because out here, unhoused people tend to camp near someplace they can panhandle and/or pick up day labor work.

I am seeing more panhandling in places where it did not exist before. It's pretty common around certain areas of the south part of Van Dorn Road/Kingstowne area. The new panhandling areas I see regularly now are the Old Keene Mill/Rolling Road area and Lee Chapel Rd/Old Keene Mill Rd intersections. There is a cemetery and wooded areas around the latter, but the only wooded areas for the former is a golf course/country club.

The wife thinks the homeless population will shoot up and be more visible in the coming months due to the shutdown, where normal support services are cut off

Zohran Mamdani is showing everybody what to do. While Trump kidnaps other leaders, Zohran's gonna fix the NYC bus system.

Every time the family and I go skiing in Colorado, something huge happens in the world. Last two times it was Covid and the Ukrainian invasion.

We’re going to Colorado in March, by the way.

Saturn is entering Aries at the end of February. This ends a 30 year cycle of Saturn going through all of the signs beginning in April of 1996. It was briefly in Aries last summer, so if you noticed a difference in focus and results that would make sense. Saturn tends to be the planet that governs karma both positive and negative. For the past three years Saturn was in Pisces, a sign marked by delusions and fantasies. Expect over the next two months (and probably the past two months) for some of the delusions/fantasies that you have been harboring over the past three years to fall away as it makes way for a much more honest, impulsive Aries. I expect world events to follow in line with the stars.

Historic Saturn in Aries dates from the 20th century below:

    • Apr 25, 1937, to Oct 17, 1937
    • Jan 14, 1938, to Jul 6, 1939
    • Sep 22, 1939, to Mar 20, 1940
    • Mar 3, 1967, to Apr 29, 1969
    • Apr 7, 1996, to Jun 9, 1998
