Secession is unlikely. But Normals may at least want to discuss it due to this: The ideological and political core of the American Republic, the Project of 1776 as institutionalized through the U.S. Constitution of 1789, or whatever one wishes to call it, was the rejection of monarchy in favor of a democracy governed by laws, not by the whims of any single individual. This defining principle has crumbled irreparably following two Supreme Court decisions: Trump v. United States in 2024 and Trump v. CASA, Inc. this year. Professor Roig elaborated: A year ago, the Court effectively granted the President absolute immunity from criminal prosecution. Behind the veil of argument hides the practical reality of a ruling that deems inadmissible against the President any and all evidence of presidential intent or communications with aides. This reality makes prosecuting the President an impossibility. Then, just a few weeks ago, the Court affirmed the power of the President to execute blatantly unconstitutional orders—such as stripping someone’s citizenship or disappearing people to a lawless prison in a war-torn country, without any pre-deprivation process—until separately challenged in court by affected individuals. Again, the practical consequences of this ruling are that persons whose citizenship or legal presence status has not been determined through any process whatsoever may be kidnapped and disappeared before their next of kin or attorney is even notified—citizens included, ID or not. Professor Roig concluded: We have already seen masked unidentified individuals throw people into unmarked vans and detain them for weeks or deport them without any process. Together, these two opinions eliminated not only criminal accountability for the President, but also any effective judicial, civil, and administrative remedies against the executive branch. The American President now rules above the law, no longer subject to it and indistinguishable from a monarch. With the American Republic thus dismantled, there is no meaningful legal barrier left to secession. https://www.google.com/amp/s/verdic...een-talk-of-secession-could-it-occur-nowadays
That is the fvcking problem. When Texas builds more houses and more green energy than my state it is fvcking embarrassing. We already lost the title of the second city to LA long ago. I don't want to my city to be left behind by Houston and/or Dallas. Even worse, Mississippi is moving up the ranks in education while my state is at best just doing enough. I don't want Mississippi to have a better education system than my state, my state needs to get it's shit together to make sure that never happens.
Texas is waiting for you. So is Mississippi. Better fit for you. All you need to do is raise the money to relocate
The funny thing is that if Canada moved troops across their southern border right now, at least 48% of the US population would welcome them as liberators. If they had any ambition at all, this could be The Canadian Century. The Empire Of Canada and the Peoples Republic Of China would be fighting for the world's hearts and minds in a battle for global supremacy and who wouldn't be rootin' for the Canucks? Nobody, that's who.
Blue states and cities don't have the guns. But they have the money. A general strike would end this. Republicans cannot *make* you work, but they need your money to finance their grift. Cut it off and they wither and die.
A general strike is of questionable efficacy when a substantial portion of the population either has no idea what is going on or actively supports Trump’s actions (yes, even in blue states and cities). And even for the people who would theoretically be in favor it’s a hard sell to lose income and potentially risk losing their jobs with no guarantee of substantial enough turnout for a strike to be successful.
General strikes also needs someone to lead it and that is usually labor unions. Of course unions are a insignificant part of the labor force in the US. The counter example is Israel which has had general strikes recently even though probably half of the population is in favor of the regime. The difference is the role of labor unions.
Also being a small, culturally homogeneous nation who are likely much better informed than our sprawling nation of fools.
This highlights what I believe is the most workable way forward - we need a labor leader rather than a governmental leader. We need a Hoffa more than a candidate to hit them in the populism.
The stereotype of gun control advocates suggests that they'll almost always say "assault rifle," which is a term without any real meaning. The conventional wisdom among gun enthusiasts, or whatever, is that it's evidence that gun control advocates don't actually know anything about what they're trying to regulate.
They know that they are trying to regulate is great at mowing down children. Other than that, gun grabbers are total ignoramuses. (Ignorami? Anyway….)
Do you actually own firearms? I am trying to understand your perspective on this. Describe for me a defensive scenario that you are envisioning in which a semi automatic rifle is more effective than a handgun or a cylinder or improved cylinder shotgun loaded with 00. Judging by the fact that you’ve already stated in this thread that your governor is banning “long guns” I am suspicious you have no clue what the last part of the previous sentence even means.
California grows most of our food plus TV & movies. Brooklyn provides most of our hipsters. Vermont has cheese & ice cream. Chicago does some unspeakable things with food. But even that's OK in the United States of Finally Having Nice Stuff. And we just hire some Hessians or samurais as our defense against Meal Team 6
When the MAGA red shirts come for us all, they are not coming with hand guns. It's about the stupidity of claiming the government has gone fascist and then turning around and telling your citizens that they are not allowed to have the same weapons the enemy will have. One more example of Democrats forcing ourselves to fight with one hand behind our backs. No, I never wanted to own guns until Trump became president. I can still get a bolt action rifle, I am looking at the Tikka tx3 ace target, but 6.5 is out of stock right now.
Those clowns are all over the place, with their fixies and gourmet coffee, constantly in search of the next Trend or Fad. I highly doubt Brooklyn has a majority
Who's "the enemy" that you would want to fight? Select all that apply: A- Some disorganized redneck rabble B- ICE or some other federal agency C- Local law enforcement D- The National Guard and/or US Army E- All of the above
The 14th amendment has been under attack since Trump was re-elected. You should also check out Amy Coney Barrett’s comments on Trump running for a third term.
Ooooh exciting you know it's called Armalite. I bet that knowledge brings back all those dead kids. Piss off. Michael Howard and John Major probably couldn't have told you the difference between an Armalite and an actual arm but they knew people shouldn't own assault rifles so they got rid of them and now you don't die from them here or in Australia.
