France is currently becoming one of Europe's biggest leagues. They are currently on a par with the skill level of Germany, though their attendence isn't as good. England, Italy, and Spain still are the big three leagues. France has passed the Dutch League, Scandanavian Leagues, and the rest of the European leagues. There are several steps which should be taken to improve the French Leagues. (1) Lower the number of tickets to be sold. This creates more demand eventually and you can then raise prices. Once the demand is in place you can raise the number of tickets a little at a time. Always make sure there are plenty of people who can't get tickets and that you sell out all the tickets. (2)The government needs to put some sort of program in place so the clubs don't have to pay debts for longer periods and can take out loans for longer periods of time. This way they can hold onto good players. (3) Uefa needs to give them another CL spot and Uefa cup spot. (4) Needs to be better sponsorship deals (5) Need to market league better (6) Sell more apparrel, Jerseys, and other fan stuff. (7) You can't find french jerseys in the US. They need to market to other countries. Go on the summer WCT in the USA. They aren't reaching enough people. They need to expand their market. Any more suggestions? Comments? Whatever?
1. You never took basic econ, did you? The answer shall be found in 4,6, and 7. 2. I believe you misworded this, but I am guessing that you want clubs to be able to get loans with longer terms. I don't know if the government has rules against this, but the guidelines are largely set by the financial markets. Good luck overhauling that. 3. UEFA does not just give these spots away, they must be earned through the UEFA co-efficients. The co-efficients for each nation are determined via wins in Europe. Monaco's run will help improve this, as will future French success in Europe. Sure, you want more spots in Europe? Then earn it. 4,6, and 7. To accomplish these you must bring in more fans and increase the popularity of the league. INCREASING the ticket supply and lowering ticket prices would make it easier for a greater number of fans to attend games and to embrace the French league. Then you have a greater amount of fans interested in spending money on jerseys and other merchandise. With more fans eager to buy merchandise with sponsors' names on them (as well as view them on TV), sponsors will be more willing to shell out da bucks. This will help to "expand their market." Maybe even as far as the U.S. Once you cultivate this demand, then you can increase ticket prices. 5. I don't know enough about how they market the league to lay claim to how they should improve. However developing an increased interest in the league in the fashion that I stated previously would make this job easier.
I was beating the drum heavily for a French team to get on the Champions USA World Tour. Marseille and PSG are the only clubs large enough and well known enough to warrant an invite. Unfortunately I don't think either club was even considered. What hurts them is that their aren't any large French American communities in the USA of a significant size. Bayren Munich will be playing in Chicago(large German pop.) Porto is playing in New England(large Portuguese pop.) Where would OM or PSG even play it would be difficult to place them. French clubs do do a poor job of marketing to other countries.
If anywhere, washington...just cosmopolitan in general...me thinks it would sell fairly well... by the way on my cable at school, the only european league i can see on free tv is france, so that's a good start. I quite enjoy the matches when I can, though I don't know much about the league comparitively...other than nantes used to be very good and they look like Norwich City
