You've probably saw at least one of them. A guy is at a bar and orders one someone is throwing darts and another guy is bent over shooting pool. The idiot at the bar takes one swig of the Sam Adams Lite and screams out Wahooo or some such nonsense, startling the guy throwing darts into nailing the pool player in the butt. The second one is even worse. A couple is getting ready to go out, the girl is running a little late applying eyeliner with a pencil. She tells him to get a drink. He takes one swig and screams. The next shot is of the couple out with the girl wearing a patch over her eye. I could really choke the living hell out of the idiot that came up with these two stupid and lame bits.
Just like several of the Commercial Bowl commercials this year; I give the Sam Adams Light commercials points for creativity, but overall they're really not that impressive.
You're forgetting the short-lived Sam Adams Light spot that got pulled for its implications of underage drinking. Never mind what you think of underage drinking - it wasn't any better. Meanwhile, whoever has the Dutch Beers account ought to given a Congressional citation or something. Take your pick...the Amstel ads during the hockey game I'm watching now, OR 'We're sorry, we're from Amsterdam. We didn't know light beers were supposed to suck.' OR The Heineken commercial I saw the other night - 'What is this, some kind of joke?' (my personal favorite of 2003). However, for sheer weirdness, nothing but nothing beats the Chinese beer commercial that's being shown on MSG pretty constantly. I can't even describe it, but you must see it. It's hysterical.
Amstel does have some quality ads. [I like the one with the bartender rinsing his mugs unders the "other lite beer" tap. Also, they have some pretty good radio ads as well [if you're a fan of Dennis Miller]. The other beer co. that has some great ads is Heineken (especially the keg can series on television and on radio).
The Sam Adams one is okay. I like the Heineken one where the guy and the girl are eating dinner. She's talking on a cell phone and drinks some of his beer. He then subtley asks for the check. Understated humor at its best.
My favorite Sam Adams commercial from back in the day: "Here at Samual Adams, we will never make a light beer."
the only thing good about Amstel Light is their commercials during champions league games. "Dude, you're getting a dell!" "1800 call-att" and "YAHOO!" (this thread) i think it was the result of the same guy thinking.
I once read about how, when he was a kid, the former Met Howard Johnson would get a free lunch at Howard Johnson's restaurants because, well, his name was Howard Johnson. My brother's name is Jim Koch. Hmmm.
