I was just curious, if I were to get rich all of a sudden and want to buy the Burn from the Hunts, how much would I pay? (waits for the idiotic "$5" posts )
1. i seriously though "$5" as soon as i saw the thread title, so i don't appreciate your comment that i'm an idiot. oh, wait... i am. 2. i hope it's under $50 millions because when i win the lottery on wednesday they'll be taking out taxes... someone else will have to cover the expenses, though - my current hourly wage wouldn't do it.
Interesting question. I believe that the current MLS expansion fee is around $10MM. I'd guess that buying an existing franchise would be somewhat higher...buying an existing franchise with stadium (read: revenue streams) even higher. SWAG = $50 - 70MM But, you would need to be prepared to handle sustained single-entity losses for the next 10+ years.
which raises the question: is the single-entity model permanent or temporary? i am/was/is/are (but i'm not) under the impression that once the league has stabilised and is a money-making affair that it would move to a model more in line with the NFL or other sports leagues.
SSS - sorry. Like 'new math', we have developed 'new slang' for soccer in the USA. Soccer Specific Stadium (MLS has 3) 1999 - Columbus Crew Stadium 2003 - Home Depot Center (HDC) in Los Angeles 2005 - ULHOWA - Uncle Lamar's House of Whoop Ass Of the 7 remaining teams Chi has a plan, a place, and a design team NY has been claiming to have a stadium announcement in "60 to 90 days" for so long that the phrase has become an insider joke among many of the literate.
I believe that the Single-Entity is a temporary vehicle toward league stability. But I'd venture to guess that we are a long way from seeing individual team ownership. Expansion to 16+, 1 owner 1 team and a TV contract probably need to come first.
i've learned an amazing amount about the sport, the business of the sport, and fandom as well by hanging out on these boards and reading. until recently i even read more days without posting than days with posting. (if you believe that)
Zen if I was old enough I'd buy you a beer, you are one crazy bastard But you can hold me to that in May of 2006 when we're watching the Burn man-handle everyone at ULHOWA.
Zen, you are shameless! But since you are such a critic (poison indeed ) of quality malt beverages it is probably the best option. ...sighs...wishes for a wee dram of the water of life (25 yr old McCallum will do)
NFW it is worth 50-70m. I say half that which includes whatever scrape they pull out the Frisco management contract they have. Just a SWAG though. Are there any comps? Kroenke/Crapids?
Not to mention, you know, almost 80 million dollars and a contractual agreement with the Village of Bridgeview.
Village? Will that make the Phire the Village Idiots? Or maybe the Village People? So many jokes await their new home!!
