Not sure if Davis is much of an upgrade.

Why, have these guys cost us trophies?, last i checked we were winning multiple trophies with them, what are we upgrading to, even more trophies than the supercup and league and Copa and CL i hope, as these guys have helped us win them all, or are we falling back to we win all those trophies despite them? like the same is said of Madrid by bitter fans

Lets pay somebody 12 mil. per year for a good performance. Bryan Zaragoza is already lining up.

I'd kick Mendy out and get Gutierrez back.

We should definitely be all over Trent. He is a generational talent and could become our Marcelo on the right albeit with passing.

Yes to Davies as well. We will see true potential of Vinicius with some one who can make a decent pass and become a somewhat dummy threat. Currently the Mendy's free man is on vinicius ass, double teaming him.

Once Modric and Ceballos leaves we need to go for a proper passer as well.

LB is by far the weakest position, I would dare say ahead of CB position. Both Militao and Rudiger have been thoroughly disappointing so far. But Garcia and Mendy are just not good enough offensively. They provide virtually zero threat going forward.

Having seen the best of Roberto Carlos and Marcelo, I yearn for another talented attacking minded LB who would give Vini Jr solid overlaps and viable crosses.

He was sold after flop loan spell at Real Sociedad. Zidane wanted Mendy and he won 2 CLs under Carlo. Would trust their judgement over yours.

Theo is weak defensively as well. Might as well sign Davies rather than go for inferior version who struggled at RM and Real Sociedad in consecutive seasons. :D

Mendy is just frustrating. I thought he had a good enough season last year to extend and stay. I still think there is no real difference in quality between him and Davies.

But he hasn't had a good season so far and he just extended. Going another few yrs with this is disappointing.

Mendy has been fine since his calamitous season a few years ago. He is what he is.

We need an offensive right back to offset his lack of ability on the ball.

When you have a dribbler on the wing it's actually better to clear the area and exploit the 1v1, rather than crowd it with a full-back.

I think that makes sense. The attacking fullback usually enters the space behind a player that's cutting inside, Vinicius usually attacks in those L shape runs where he moves across the field laterally and rushes inside when he sees an opening. So if you're a fullback and step in front of him you're interecepting his runway, and running behind him is pointless as there's nothing to gain from it.

I believe his good form might be linked to his negotiations for an extended contract. Perhaps, the prospect of being transferred to a lesser club or not receiving a better contract may have been motivating factors for him. Now, his financial or job security is set for the next 3 years until he is 32. In his mind, he might want to be in his best, but maintaining motivation could become challenging once job security is assured.

He's always been good defensively when healthy. 2022-23 had more to do with multiple injuries and Camavinga had to play LB due to that. That's the only poor season Mendy had at RM as well.

Yes, but he found the offense unimaginative with him on the lineup. He was good last season when VJ was in form. Let's see if VJ picks up his form.

The guy has a, by football standards, eternal contract.

    He's not a topic until 2028.

WE were lucky with two almost back to back generational left backs like Roberto Carlos and Marcelo. Finding an adequate substitute right away is not easy.

Precisely why this method of "how did player X perform last season" is a terrible way of making judgements. There is a shitload of context and hypotheticals to consider. He didn't play well last year = he sucks is the reason we missed out on major talent over the years.

Eh, we got a fair amount out of Mendy. I’d say he’s been adequate at least. Can’t expect to replace greats with other greats. Like no one in the current team would make the 2017 team (other than Tibo). But they don’t need to: just be good enough to win titles.

RM has world class options in prettty much every position and they won all the major titles already. ZZ wanted Mendy and Theo was underwhelming for two years. We didn't have time for reclamation projects. Mendy helped us win 2 CLs and 3 La Ligas as starter. Theo got cooked by Yamal in Euro semis while same player said Mendy has been the toughest defender he faced so far in his career. I am glad we had Mendy vs Bernardo Silva in CL last year than Theo who's still very suspect defensively.

In the case of Davies he's never been a player i liked a lot, just an absurd physical specimen with not much football depth. Remember, when he arrived from Canada, several Bayern players asked if he was a former football (NFL) player, signed for his physical attributes, they thought he was currently learning the game.
