Rodri is a pipe dream. Hes too expensive, too settled in Manchester and nearing 30. We should have snatched him before City did, but I can imagine at the time he was seen as "not Madrid level quality".

I mean we had Kroos and Modric and Fede among others so maybe that’s why we didnt but I see your point

I think the same summer he left Villareal was the summer Kovacic left for Chelsea and Isco fell from grace, so he could have gotten his minutes and then waited out for Casemiro to move on in a couple of years and take over as a starter. Could have saved a lot of money which we had to spend on Tchouameni, but meh. Could have should have.

City snatch him from Atletico as he went trough Atletico academy and got sold to Villarreal. There he showed his real ability and after one season Simeone sign him back, played him every game and sold for 70mil.e what was rly good money then...Never seen any article about us targeting him while he was in Yellow or Atletico but i remember Barcelona was interested in him as Busquets heir.

We literally had a player (one you preferred) leave because of KCM play dominance and you think another player who wants to play because they feel they're entering their time would come here and sit for what... four years to get the chance to be a starter?

It's like you complain just to complain.

Even throwing in Tchouameni as if he weren't recently brought in. That's a guy by the way who turned down everyone because he only wanted Madrid by the way... apparently it is worthless for some but can be weaponizef against others.

Don't even bring logic into this discussion.

He was never on our radar for multiple reasons. Hindsight of course is always champion

Casemiro was always available to play. Llorente lierally sat on the bench for two seasons due to that. Without the advantage of hindsight, spending 35 ME on Rodri wouldn't have made any sense then. Pep himself didn't know Rodri would be so good and hence he ended up at Atletico from Villarreal and then City bought him for twice as much.

Kovacic was there for three years and when he saw its still not possible to break in the first eleven, he left. I did prefer him to stay but alas. Unlike Kovacic who was entering his prime, Rodri was 21 at the time, and a youngster coming from Villareal is expected to pay his dues for a few years like Kovacic before deciding whether hes up for promotion for starter, or should continue as a rotation player, or leave. Thats the downside of being young and coming to Madrid (which is the upside by itself).

I have no problem admitting I didn't advocate for Rodri at the time, so the hindsight part is true, but thats why we have the scouting personnel. The timeline would have worked out with Casemiro's leaving, and while Tchouameni is great, I didn't like his price and still don't. He cost four times Rodri did, and hes not a better player.

    He came up via Atletico...

We are absolutely fine without him to be perfectly honest.

    1. Rodri left Villareal to start at atleti then left atleti to start at City. He didn't leave Villareal or atleti to go sit on the bench. He left to be the starter.

    2. You're comparing Rodri's cost leaving Villareal in 2018 to Tchouameni's cost leaving Monaco in 2022; yet your complaining about and comparing the performance of Rodri in 2024 to Tchouameni I'm 2024.

No where in the world is Rodri costing less than €100M. He isn't a €35M player as he was back then. Let's not be disingenuous here.

    3. You condemn Mbappe for not being loyal coming to Madrid from Monaco and then PSG sooner, yet you rubbish Tchouameni who was loyal, made sacrifices and only wanted Madrid.

You can't have your cake and eat it as well.

    It's incredible.

All of this from a fake rumor AS printed which shouldn't even get posted here if not for the hyperventilating guy/gal who has become a meme on RMBS due to their erratic roller-coaster of emotions they display because they can't bare the team not winning every result 5-0.

There’s no logic. He just said in another post he’s actively hoping one of our own players becomes a failure. He’s not supporting the team just spunking over his favourite players and crying when we don’t show an interest in them

He left for a bigger club. We were not interested at the time, so nobody knows what he would have decided if we were. So yes Im saying that if we picked him up in 2018 for 35m, and he went down the Kovacic path, we wouldnt have needed to buy Tchouameni in 2022 for 80m. Also I dont see how I "rubbish" Tchouameni by saying hes a great player but cost way too much and is not better than Rodri. Its the simple truth. Great that he wanted to come, but that has nothing to do with Mbappe. Different players, different histories, different deals. Whataboutism is no replacement for an argument. If anyone is hyperventilating its you, getting riled up as usual because someone posted a rumor or engaged with harmless hypothetical musings.

How dare he, right naked Sergio Ramos? Bad bad supporter!

Your question mock me. U really compare those players to active player born Madrid ?
RM bought Hazard at 28-29 age
Why not Rodri ? Even Carvajal tried to convinced him
“I tell Rodri every day to sign for Madrid”
    P.S.
I’m coming soon to the Bernabeu Vs Milan.. who come ? Beginning November
Let see u comment the same thing to Danny

    Hindsight mixed with hypothetical.

Literally arguing for the sake of wanting to argue. Just disregard the facts and argue.

Lol, enjoy man. If it makes you happy, enjoy. I'm good though

I'd really like to have him here but it appears to be impossible.
It's not merely his age, other things also have to be taken into consideration.

I get your point, but he's a player you can afford to miss out on as far as I'm concerned.

I think he is their most important/valuable player and that says a lot if we're talking about a team like City. When we were buying Tchouameni the idea was we shouldn't worry about money because this is a player you can't afford to miss out on, but there is a major gap between him and Rodri imo.

Anyway, that ship has sailed, but it would be good if we operate with the priority to capture the Spanish market and make sure to poach any talented up and coming player there to avoid the Rodri mistake.

Take a breath and think through that logic carefully.

Hazard was the exception to the rule for our general transfer strategy of the last decade and it was probably the worst signing in the entire history of the club.

I have a bit of a problem with calling it a "Rodri mistake". After his transfer to Atleti, we won La Liga 3 times and were twice the proud recipient of the CL. That's a lot of trophies without Rodri, and I'm quite positive he wouldn't have made a big difference for us in terms of moving the needle so much that we would have won more Liga's or CL's. He's a great player, but we had and have great players in his position.

Now, if it was prime Cristiano, and considering the state of our team and our opponents, it would have been a different story. But such player isn't available in today's game, nor do I think he'll be available in the next decades.

Thats basically saying that we didn't make a single mistake in the last six years, and that its in fact impossible to make a mistake if you win three out of six leagues and two out of six CLs. We can always do better. Strive for perfection!
