Pushing him to become CB is a one-way ticket to him leaving permanently. He might chip in every now and then, but he's a DM first and that's what he prefers.

Double pivot with Tchou and insert any other midfielder isn't going to work, he simply doesn't cover enough ground or get around the pitch with ease, similar to Kroos.

Needs two workhorses in front of him like Cama and Fede who cover every blade of grass. Jude back to his number 10/false 9 hybrid role, Vini and Mbappe upfront with freedom. It's the clear and obvious solution Carlo will revert to, it's just a matter of getting everyone healthy.

4-2-2-2 which was deployed extensively last season could work.

    Cama-Tchoumeni + Bellingham-Fede

Obviously we need a 3rd/4th CB (we don’t know what Alaba is bringing) and we don’t have a backup 9 anymore, let alone a legit starter. I would’ve preferred we loaned Endrick and brought in a Joselu type loan striker to give us another option. Oh well.

We have a back up #9 in Endrick. Joselu wasn't a regular starter either. And if some don't think Endrick position is a #9, not like loaning him and bringing him back later would change that. :D

I think Tchou has been underwhelming but it's hard to single him out when we have 2 forwards walking around the pitch and our press is awful.

I think our current system just isn't working, and will expose less dynamic players like Tchouameni. As soon as we lose the ball the opposition can run with it all the way to our box, our counter press isn't coordinated and isn't working. Also, offensively we have little depth, we usually end up with a straight line of 4 up front with no aerial ability. We still need the players to understand this new system better, to build their physical levels and up their intensity, and to regain sharpness especially up front, all probably contributing to our issues but I am sure Carlo will tweak things up and most likely we might end up with the 4-4-2 from last season again which gave us good balance.

He shouldn’t be our backup 9, that’s my point. I’d have loaned him out for playing time in general. An actual 9 loanee like Joselu would be useful when we need a regular presence in the box. Veterans don’t need as much PT to be ready to have an impact late in matches. I don’t consider Endrick a valid backup 9 as he is insanely unproven and young as hell. He may prove me wrong and be impactful, he almost has to be the way our attackers are looking, but I don’t count on that.

Leaving permanently? Then let him. But I think he's a competitor, so he won't.

In any case, he should be thankful he, for whatever reason, was allowed the miracle of a permanant starting position ahead of a player that is more talented, has shown more and is significantly more complete. I've always felt we turned a blind eye for Tchou's weak spots and highlighted Camavinga's sometimes slippery performances, but to me, Camavinga has always looked better as a DM. It might be an idea to, you know, give him that spot (that he actually earned due to performances) for a year or so and see how he does?

In terms of Tchou. I really like him. However, others have said it, he looked great as a CB and it would be wise for him to actually consider that option, as we are short on them and Rudi and Alaba are 30+. It might prove to a wise career decision, like many of us have decided to do over the course of our 'regular' careers.

If we can't single out anybody individually we might as well agree that maybe it's less about the individuals and more about us not playing well as a team, maybe

    Youre getting there.

All these suggestions about tactics and formations is as useless as my suggestions for players to buy. Carlo gonna Carlo, but Mbappe is the biggest challenge for his philosophy considering the tactical conondrum he creates. Carlo attempting to address it through non-tactical means is what can be expected.

Tchouameni is a 6/10 player in every facet of his game. He'd probably do well with a Xabi Alonso type player beside him. He can't be the sole guy ala Casemiro.

His attributes are better suited to a CB anyway.

Strongly disagree with this analysis, Tchouameni was great last season in his primary role as DM, we’ve seen his really a stud in that position, and was also really impressive the season prior until the WC schedule messed up his form (along with many others in Europe).

He’s an elite DM by todays standards, I don’t think that’s at all in question in my books. But he certainly needs to wake up now, been sleep walking so far this season.

Tchouameni has technical quality on the ball and he’s pretty clean in that regard. But considering his price tag (which I was never a fan of), I want some dynamism and a player that we don’t really have to cater to get the best out of. A mid destroyer he is not, it’s worth mentioning though that he has never really had to fight for his place. He seems content, it’s hard to say if there is another level there in the player.

    If Rodri comes, it's either:

    Bye to Camavinga or Tchoumeni
Move Rudiger out of CB to the bench and move Tchoumeni to CB full time

Personally, I don't see either of the above two ever happening so I call BS

Rodri was born and raised in Madrid. You know, some day he will probably want to return home. Guardiola are leaving this season. He said it will be his last one. Rodri might consider come
