Vallejo is not even 50% level of Pavón

Excellent news. This makes sense in so many ways. I just hope we manage his workload and minutes well, so that we can see more of what he produced last season as opposed to the 22/23 season.

Happy Mendy is staying and seems to be over his injuries. He's a solid defender.

If we go for a veteran 1 season signing i vote for Pepe. He was simply among the best in Euros.

Glad it’s only 3 years for Mendy. I think we still need to either make a decision on Fran or reinforce with a new LB next season. Mendy can’t stay fit, last season was the exception.

Fran is good. We need to show more faith in him.

Someone please tell me a solid defender is coming in cause despite Mbappe we look weaker than last season otherwise. Tchouameni and Carvajal aren’t CBs.

Franny needs to take some more minutes. I think he's shown promise, but importantly it's to keep Mendy healthy at this point and see how Fran develops.

You can't teach speed and he has a good cross. We just need him to settle his nerves.

Thought he played well in the league when he got consistent minutes towards the end of the season.

This is what i thought and said even before Kylian, considering how much time our team spends attacking from the left and how many players congregate over there on a regular basis, we need balance

As for Fran, he can get better, seems to forget where he is positionally when having to defend

Two summers in a row I am doing what if scenarios with Rafa Marin. We confirmed his loan to Alaves in late July and Militao had ACL injury couple of weeks later.

Yoro snub comes few days after Marin is confirmed as Napoli signing. It's very likely that we won't sign a CB and Carlo would have probably used Marin given his experience in La Liga.

Our alternative CB's are already at the club.

Gonna be a tough season this one, but with this club you can always afford to be optimistic.

Yea. Think they won't sign a CB. ACLs to Militao and Alaba didn't make them sign a CB last season. Carlo will have to count on Rudiger, Militao staying healthy, Alaba coming back in November or depend on Tchouameni, Carva and Mendy as CB depth options. He will probably use Vallejo before academy options.

Decent chance we buy back Marin in 2026 when Rudiger and Alaba's contracts both finish. This position will need major upheaval very soon

Carlo also told me I was untouchable, but still no renewal offer!

I hope Rudiger and Militao are not injured for the next five months. Alaba will return in October, but I think we will only be playing at full fitness level from January 2025.

I wouldn't want any of them but for different reasons, developing players is a huge investment and I really want to see us get a young guy with a high ceiling who can develop over next few seasons.

I think he said “I wouldn’t touch you with a barge pole”. That’s different to being untouchable.

Vallejo before the injuries ruined him was quite the player, had a bright career ahead of him.

Also, Pavon was a decent player that got burned by the club in an attempt to prove a point. He leaves and goes elsewhere and he has a career on him instead of a bullseye on his back.

Pavon is an odd case. He looked pretty good until 2003 even in big CL games. Obviously having either Hierro or a pretty good Helguera as CB partner probably helped.

Even vets like Helguera, Salgado declined pretty fast from their prime alongside Pavon post 2003. Even Capello couldn't revive him either. Imo Pavon is a bit like Miguel Torres in 2006-07. Decent talent who had a purple patch, but wasn't gonna keep that level after a season or two at a club like RM.
