All the top English clubs signed up for it. Don’t let them kid you. It’s only the media / fan backlash that had them coming out saying they won’t join. Wouldn’t surprise me if they were still registered somewhere down the line.

I mean get Manolo Sanchis too since we apparently had no other plans. This is an opportunity for management to get creative. Calafiori, Laporte or vets. We can't be worried about money that much since it's our fault for not finishing the deal. This happens so now we have to pay the price since our bluff was called.
The idea that we only had one target seems baffling to me. Surely we should have a short list for all positions of current need. Just hope we add a competent CB, don’t know why we’d purposely go short handed into a season stuffed with matches.
Laporte is someone who can serve us for 3-4 years if we get him (He'd have to take 8 ME nett while he's earning 20 M in Saudi). It's normal if we don't have plan B prodigy than can be a starter for next 10-15 years. Pool missed out on Tcho and haven't been able to find a DM like that since. RM happen to get 9/10 plan A targets. Get someone like Laporte now or Hermoso if former's wage is a stumbling block and that gives us time to find next great CB prospect. Inter apparently cooled their interest in Robert Renan as Zenit wants 20 ME. Wonder what Juni thinks of him.
But they have all the money; they are usurping talents from the other top 4 leagues. Look at the top 20 richest clubs, half are from England. A team like West Ham has more money than Napoli for example.
Still not the super amazing league they sell us though the quality of the leagues rely heavily on the home talent. They are still behind despite all of the marketing and money
Napoli has great scouting and hence found a player like Kvara. Several PL clubs still don't got quality for the kind of money they spend. Aston Villa were a mess but climbed the ladder pretty fast once they got Monchi and Emery who knew how to build a squad.
And the other clubs know that they have the money. An ordinary 20 mill player will be priced at 50 for them and they will go for it. Meanwhile the media hyping every mediocre player entering the league. All these lead to the poor performance in the international fronts.
Why? That has been our behavior for some time now. We have specific targets we feel are the only value and if we don't hit on them we're very happy to wait for them or another target we view the same way.
Agree, but I still find it baffling for a club of this stature and ambition. I thought going into last season with only Joselu was dumb. It worked out and I’ll take an L there, but truthfully we were a few last gasp Jude and Joselu goals away from the season ending VERY differently. I’d prefer for the club to reinforce positions that are obviously lacking when they can. While Yoro was clearly their #1 option, if he was that head and shoulders above any other option in the world the club should’ve fought harder to get him. Smells like a little too much arrogance that backfired to me. Not saying we should’ve paid what ManU did, but we were obviously well below the valuation of this apparent #1 option and couldn’t pony up like 10 million more plus some variables to lock him up? Odd to me. I’m obviously pessimistic the club will bring in a CB now, but I’ll still be hoping they do.
I don't agree completely with how we do it, however I understand why we take such a stance after Hazards and Jovics. We have a loaded team. We don't need to add deadweight which won't make a significant difference... just because fans are spoiled and demand perfection. With that said we did a one-year loan for GK, what is stopping us from looking for those kind of options in other areas? Then again, obviously since we have done so we know it's an option so if we don't do it maybe there is a reason behind that?
Defense is far from loaded unless the club sees Tchouameni as a CB and doesn't think he has all that much of a future in midfield.
Yup, I’m fine with a loan. I have said before I’d like the club to use that option more if we can’t get our transfer targets. Give’s us breathing room to sort out other transfer targets without making the club desperate. Bring on a loan CB!
Joselu on loan ended up being a great deal as well. One year deal is best way for short term options to avoid Mariano type situation.
You cannot tell me we have this great scouting network and cast this super wide net only for it to end up with a single search result. If we go into the season like this we're most likely penny pinching or half assing it because Carlo like Tchouameni in defense.
If that's what management thinks then I'd agree. But then with Kroos' departure and shifting Tchou to CB leaves us pretty thin at midfield.
I agree, and am not in favour of considering Tchouameni a CB rotation when the logical thing to do is get in an actual CB. But, if we just look at it purely on numbers in midfield since you mentioned Kroos, Ceballos is basically a new signing for us this season in midfield if he can stay fit. He went under the radar last season and missed a whole half of the season with various injures and saw minimal minutes when he came back, abysmal season from him. But now that he’s back and hopefully fit, he’s a new piece to our midfield that we basically couldn’t count on last season.
