Madrid didn't wanna outbid Man Utd. Plain and simple. Madrid only got Mbappe and Camavinga for the circumstances they did because the player themselves forced their club's hands. Yoro wanted Madrid, but he wasn't gonna wait to force Lille's hand. You can't win them all, but this was a learning opportunity for Madrid. You wait too long to propose, you lose the girl.

This is the issue. People requesting a significant investment for a 3rd or 4th CB.

Like where in the world does a normal club operate like that?

When Courtois got injured, RM journos mentioned named like Bono and Kepa pretty fast.

When Benz left, there were some Kane rumours for a week. Then Mbappe sent letter to PSG that he won't renew and RM journos said no Kane and club willing to wait and sign Mbappe on bosman in 2024.

When Militao got injured, no replacement names and media leak was that club won't enter the market. Same after Alaba ACL and leak that Tcho will fill in as back up CB.

After Yoro went to Utd, media leak is no signing is a possibility unless RM finds a market opportunity late in the window.

Pattern suggest strong possibility that we go into the season with only Rudiger, Militao, Alaba, Tchouameni in dual role and Vallejo doing Mariano in defense impression.

The outlier for me is Alaba. If he's back in October then I see the club rolling out Rudiger/Militao/Tchouameni until then. But I've also seen reports Alaba won't return until January, in that case I'd basically consider him a write off for the season by the time he's back into game shape/form.

The club were working on Yoro for quite some time, which tells us they've identified CB as a need. I think we'll scoop someone up, most likely a free agent or cheap Joselu deal. Kick the can down the road on a young CB next summer.

The club has been working for years by identifying targets years ahead or taking great opportunities.

This won't and should not change. We missed on one. I think the mendes things is exaggerated. We cant say boss Perez is a shark and attack mendes for making more money for everyone involved. We might have let one slip but it is what it is. If we thought he was worth 70 million we would have payed it. I m not saying the club is right but I do trust their track record to wait and see. I have watched a couple of game of yoro. Smart agile young defender but I didn't think he was generational like I did mbappe or Bellingham. If he is good for united. Good for the kid. I know everyone including me enjoys shitting on united but a good united is good for the league and for viewing.

I don't see it that gloomy if vallejo or a castilla player is the 4th cb. Maybe we can count on paz or castilla youngsters as midfield 7 option. Assuming caballos leaves(he should for his own good.

Lunin needs to go. He should start, club should make money.

Calafiori close to a €45m move to Arsenal.

It's funny that we're prepared to pay €45m+bonuses for 16-year old Mastantuono but not for a CB (Calafiori or someone else). And no this potential CB won't be our 4th/5th choice.

I agree that Alaba is a wildcard right now. He was already injury prone and on the decline before this injury, and I think based on reports he returns November at the earliest.

I am OK with Rudiger, Militao,Tchouameni, but they need a cheap 4th option. Tchouameni may be needed in midfield.

Laporte is not a bad stop gap if he can be had cheap. Sounds like he was trying to return to Spain before the Euros already.

Hell, Pepe for a year as the 4th cb is not the worse idea either. I am sure he can hold up for one year. He was solid in the Euros.

We know they only spend big for players they want and will wait until the opportunity presents itself. So the 4th cb is probably going to be a cheap stop gap.

Vallejo is Raul Bravo grade with the an additional skill of picking up injuries without playing.

I have not watched this guy a lot because he plays for Bologna, but he has looked really good when I've seen him play.

    The price seems very reasonable.

RM. We want to pay Mastantuono's €45m release clause + agent fees/bonuses. He'll be what? Our 6th CAM?

I guess it's all about strategy and priorities. Any incoming top CB is likely to hold the 2nd/3rd CB position next season and probably start the season after.

Or perhaps Perez sees leaving a position unfilled as a lucky juju.

Care to share the source on the 45 ME bid for Mastantuono? The figures I’ve seen bandied about are in the 25 ME range and supposedly the club is looking to reduce that. If true, would genuinely mean we didn’t want to fork out 60-70 ME for Yoro. Interesting.

If we’re looking for a short term cheaper stop gap solution at CB then we had a few wildcard players to go for and might still do. Hermoso for free is a no brainer but chances are he won’t be interested being fourth in the pecking order considering he already rejected that offer before, but players like Hummels, Matip, Varane were/are also free options.

If we want to shore up the midfield, someone like Guido Rodriguez make sense as a back up, for free as well. Keylor Navas is available for free as a back up to Tibo.

That's his release clause. Then you have agent fees and bonuses.

So midfielders are now CBs? They are valued differently

This video explains why Calafiori was sold by Roma. Is he going to be next big miss for Jose Mourinhon?

I would sell Mendy and buy Riccardo Calafiori to play on left back for a season or two. After that he could replace Alaba or Rudiger. He reminds me of Sergio Ramos.

Problem is not that we missed Yoro , problem is we do not have plan in place in spite of knowing that Mendes is ready to screw us - CB problem start last season when we missed out Militao and Alaba due to injury and since them we are only counting on Yoro who's agent is Mendes is something is not competent

Fair enough, but his release clause and what we want to pay for him are two different things. I’ve not seen anything indicating we want to pay that much. Would be surprised that’s all.

You tell us to swallow our pride but you’re the one refusing to let this one go…

we’re not privy to the facts, anything could’ve happened in between, so really pointless discussion at this point. He’s gone, no biggie, we move on.

What is the deal with Hermoso? If he was good enough to be a starter for Atletico how come he is without a club mid July? What are we missing here?

    They passed on Yoro.

Sorry your feelings are hurt but that’s what happened.

I like the player too, I’m disappointed, but they’ve built a fantastic squad so deserve the benefit of the doubt.

I was concerned when they let Benzema go, got blindsided by Mbappe and failed to make an effort for Kane. They made the right, brave call. This is the same situation.

I’m sure they will look at the market but I’m also sure they won’t do anything desperate.

Missing a CB at the beginning few months of the season is not a major issue. The group stages and the Liga games are manageable with the squad we have.

    No one knows what happened

maybe we got outperformed in the pursuit
Maybe we passed at that price

Either way, he is not here. So no point in spending more energy talking about this one

We aren't. Recent reports said we don't want to go beyond 25 M.
