So far, Kroos and Nacho have left. Kroos is in replaceable and it will take a some elite player to do that, nobody on the market until next summer at least. We can make up the numbers in midfield with Modric and someone getting called up from Castilla but this just means Camavinga gets more time in midfield with tchouameni, Valverde and Jude. Nacho is different. I agree we’re a bit thin on the CB with Vallejo but we have nearly two months to do something and if we don’t then we have options within the squad.
Tcho was happy to help given we had 2 ACLs last season out of 4 CBs. I don't think he'd want to go into full season as our 4th CB emergency option. There are serviceable options on free agent market as well.
Yeah telling our media minions to write op-eds or tweet about us not having a plan B will soften the blow. Club presidents wake up to see what Relevo and Diario AS have to say. Everyone knows, and everyone will see us a mile away and hike up asking prices. We let Nacho go (not saying that's a bad thing), sold Rafa Marin prematurely, recently learned that Alaba's injury is worse than first thought AND Man Utd signed our primary target. Safe to say, everyone knows..
Marin had a good offer from Napoli. We can't tell him and Napoli to wait to see whether Yoro goes back on his yes or not. We took Yoro deal for granted due to previous success with players in similar contract situation which turned out to be naive especially with an agent who we had blacklisted for last several years.
Yeah, it's like, our hands were tied. We couldn't do anything. There was only one player on the market and now there isn't. Oh well.
Tchouameni had 2.5 years left in his contract and he was ~22 + PSG were going all in for him. Perez/JAS/Calafat wanted Yoro. They put all the eggs in his basket thinking he'd pull a Tchouameni/Endrick/Bellingham. He didn't. And that's OK. Let's admit that we didn't get the player our club really wanted. It'll amaze me if we don't have a plan B. Lol actually it won't. We love playing with fire.
I don't think Juni had to go for plan B scenario right from Casemiro in 2012 to Tchouameni. Mbappe was the other rejection but not someone who had to be scouted by Juni.
Honestly, judging by some people's opinions here, I thought no great player or prospect would be willing to join United. Looks like some people need a humble check. They are going through a rough patch, but United is just a behemoth of a club and many players still dream of playing for them.
Yes; you knew him when was first mentioned in the transfer market. Why didn't people question the management then and say he's: young, inexperienced, plays in a C tier league, comes from a country that doesn't usually produce top talent, etc. Or Endrick, we gambled 60M on a player who has 0 European experience and is short. My point is taking risks is part of the game; we do it all the time. And that shouldn't be a valid excuse.
what a fall from 18-year-old Yoro to 38-year-old Ramos, Nacho and Rudiger were back backbone last season, and we were using Tchou as backup CB, but I would not think that would run as a long-run solution. looks like CB was a priority this season, but it looks club screwup at least we should have brought back Marin
It's quite rare for Juni to miss out on a kid after so much groundwork. I'm reading that there was a lot of "pressure" on Yoro's family that in the end he didn't have a choice. Seems strange that he'd trade a locker room with Vini, Jude, Modric and Kylian for one with McTominay, Anthony, Maguire and Martinez not to mention AliExpress Pep.. He could have been the 2nd CB at RM faster than many think. Oh well..
If we wanted him that badly we would have made an offer over €20M. We didn't. Just admit that when Florentino has an obsession he doesn't mess around when it comes to offers and he even pays over the transfer cost for 'friendship'. We apparently only wanted him at a cut price or for free. If not? We weren't interested and it's a good thing we weren't because €63M for an 18-year old CB with multiple years on contracr is ludicrous... talk much one with only one remaining.
If we wanted the player, he'd be in Madrid already and while it would have cost us more than 30ME it certainly would not have reached the 63ME United paid. I don't think our CB situation is in a good place at the moment and while time will tell just how good Yoro will be, he did seem to check enough boxes that we should have picked him up. I think there are far too many unanswered questions about our defense right now to be this casual about letting quality targets go.
Reports say Utd improved their wage offer this week and that sealed the deal with his entourage keen to take it. Utd deal was better for both Lille and Yoro financially.
