At least Yoro didn't ruin Mbappe's big day by leaking this yesterday. RM fans were only focused on Mbappe presentation yesterday. Mendes has basic sense.

He makes use of what he has. But for Ferland Mendy, he has asked the club to renew his contract, it is his maximum priority. Being “stuck” with world class players who have won so much for this club is not a bad thing, and just because we missed out on an 18 year old who you have never even watched play before doesn’t mean you have to make up embarrassing nicknames for them and whine about it
Wanting something and really wanting something are two different things. Florentino really wanted Mbappe; hence why he didn't mess around with his offers. He just wanted Pogba... and never made an official offer for him. Had we wanted Yoro so badly we would have offered the €40M up front (see Tchouameni when we offers the €80M) and not tried to draw things out
Tcho had long term contract so we couldn't start with low offers especially after Mbappe snubbed us and PSG were after Tcho. We got Camavinga deal done so late for a cut price because player fully cooperated.
Lille got a great deal given the contract situation. Given they also fleeced Arsenal for Pepe, they are at the level of Porto, Benfica now in transfer market handling.
Also it would be a huge salary downgrade for the player, wouldn't it? I think once you go Saudi there is no going back, you made your bed.
If we were taking the same approach to rebuilding the backline and ensuring its long term solidity as we did the midfield, we would be going after 2 centerbacks, not just 1. A reasonable argument to stay ahead of the curve would be that not only do we need a viable Nacho replacement (Vallejo is not), we also need another in the event Alaba cannot return to a top level or if Rudiger takes a dip in form or if Militao gets reinjured or can't find confidence. Right now our insurance for all of this is Tchouameni. That's not even going into reasonable levels of rotation or suspensions. We were ahead of the curve with the rebuild of the KCM midfield by bringing in 4 elite midfielders at a young age to compete with them.
Went from "they have nothing! The player calls the shots! They will have to give him to us for free" to "they got a great deal! We probably didn't want him in the first place".
Even broken clock is right twice a day. Courtois using RM to get better deal from Chelsea, same for Hazard. Strategy for Camavinga, Alaba and Rudiger won't work as players don't wanna risk injury on contract year. Finally got one right with Yoro.
The reason why we're communicating this "we will sign nobody, there is no need for a CB" stuff now from our lackeys is because clubs know that we got mugged for our primary target and when we come knocking they'll know we have one less option on the market.
The difference is we made fair offers for those players while we're now a bit cash strapped having thrown all our money to Mbappe. I think that does play a big role.
Players like Rudiger can't be rotated when healthy. In fact coaches hate rotating CBs unlike midfielders. Back up CBs get minutes due to suspension and injuries. We only need one CB. Llorente sat on bench so much as back up DM for two years because Casemiro was playing every game. Having 5 CBs would result in the youngest one having same fate. Even Militao was barely playing as 4th CB until both Ramos and Varane got injured in his second season. So imagine the situation of 5th CB. We need one CB signing only.
Camavinga final deal 30 M plus variables. Yoro opening offer 20 + 10 variables. Don't see a huge difference in our approach.
I don’t think being cash strapped is the issue here. I think we’ve got plenty of funds for transfers, the whole reason is we’re not willing to spend big on someone who was out contract next season. It didn’t work out, Yoro didn’t want to wait, we all move on. I’m sure the club has other options but depends if they are worth venturing down and wait to see what next summer brings when more CB’s contracts enter the final year.
Man Utd signed Di Maria for 75 M when we got World Champion Kroos for 25 M. Difference in the fee was due to contract length. This strategy worked for us with Kroos, Courtois, Camavinga. We way overpaid for Hazard as we needed a Galactico after horrible 2018-19 season. Yoro deal didn't happen because player didn't say no to other clubs like Kroos, Camavinga and Courtois did.
We had depth issues with more players on the squad last season and we're justifying going into next season with less. This is brutal to me.
When club leaked we won't sign anyone even on loan other than Joselu after Benzema left, proved to be right. When they leaked we won't sign anyone after Militao ACL in August and then Alaba ACL in December, they meant it too. Tcho played CB.
They go out of their way to justify everything to defend the club: we never wanted him, we don't need him, he was too expensive, he's unproven, he looks goofy, etc. But when we threw 30M at Fenerbahce for Guler who 98% of people had never seen him play nor knew he existed they were quick to praise the club as geniuses, etc. Stay consistent and be honest.
Militao and Alaba off a torn ACL, Rüdiger and Vallejo is who we're going into the season with. If this would be any other clubs depth you'd be saying they lack depth and quality, but let's pretend we're having a vision here.
We knew who Guler was thanks to Halycon and Hendrix who talked about him several weeks before the saga started. Most knew he was a good talent and didn't want him to end up at Barca who are our direct rivals.
