Isn't that a bluff anyways? Rich clubs can afford to lose players for free. A club like Lille rejecting 35-40 ME (eventually) from RM to keep him and then lose him for free wasn't likely. Utd offered more for Camavinga, but we had player and agent on our side. Romano had reported then that Utd tried their best to convince him.
For every Mbappé who successfully runs his contract down there's a Victor Valdez who practically killed his career getting long term injured on a contract year. You could argue defenders have an increased risk considering how much they have to put their body at risk at all times.
Atlético's Managing Madrid website version about Hermoso regarding his career there. Atlético parted with €25 million to acquire Hermoso from Espanyol in the summer of 2019, and at times he has looked like one of the best Spanish defenders around, particularly during the first half of the 2020/21 league-winning season and the second half of the 2022/23 campaign. Other times, Hermoso has ranged from “unreliable” to “disastrous,” to the point where a loan or a sale was a possibility — Real Sociedad and Sevilla have wanted to sign the left-footed center-back in recent years, but since his post-World Cup turnaround last season, he has been one of the first names on Diego Simeone’s team sheet. To date, Hermoso has made 165 appearances in all competitions for Atlético, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists.
That's why I said Lille would be bluffing too if they project they'd keep him and reject 35 ME in August. Also isn't clubs like Bayern complaining more and more players are refusing to renew due to huge signing bonus players get? Wenger said this would be the norm. Alaba, Rudiger made a lot of money on bosman. Pogba did this twice to join Juve. If Yoro and Mendes were on board like Camavinga, Courtois etc, RM could have got the deal done for 35-40 ME. But that's not possible if he is open to Utd move when they offer 50 M plus 12 variables to Lille.
Your point used to be that the club has no leverage because he so wants to join us but from all accounts we felt the same and lowballed them to the point where maybe the player might have felt like we weren't ready to really bet on him. Players are not fans, at a certain point the professional flexibility takes over.
Yea. We really thought this would play out like Camavinga, Courtois situation. Pretty naive in hindsight given Mendes is his agent and he went from club favourite from 2007-16 to pariah after that. He didn't have any motivation to advice Yoro to play along when Utd are offering better package.
Im on holidays but the interesting thing on the Yoro deal is that Real Madrid didn’t want to pay more than 30m, PSG not more than 45m for an 18 year old free in a year but United paid 63m! Yoro is an incredible talent and only the future will tell which strategy was the right one— Julien Laurens (@LaurensJulien) July 17, 2024 The hype he was getting doesn't seem to match the market activity he ultimately received. In any case, hope the club finds a solution
I reckon Mendes will tell Lunin not to renew and pursue bosman option next summer like Asensio did for a good signing bonus. Don't think clubs are willing to pay a transfer fee for Lunin this summer with the likes of Giorgi available.
I had posted this video few weeks back telling fans should be patient and give him time to develop if we sign him. He's 18 and someone like Varane who's ready right away happens rarely. Utd will need to develop him well which hasn't been their strong point with several signings since Fergie era.
As it seems, The management won’t sign a new CB unless there will be a good deal. I think our CB’s will be Militao, Rudiger and Alaba. Mendy and Tchuameni will play as CB’s if the situation force 🚨CONFIRMED: Real Madrid will NOT sign a CB. @JLSanchez78 ❌ pic.twitter.com/XruqfKIj7z— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) July 17, 2024
Also his contract situation might be a reason. You get Kroos for 25 M taking advantage of contract situation and pays 100 M plus 50 variables for Hazard few years later. Sense returned with Camavinga deal. PSG might have gone crazy by more than doubling world record for Neymar, but what we did with Hazard was the same on an expiring contract given the precedent set before.
Except Bologna did reportedly accept a €45m package bid from Arsenal. The deal is stalled because of the resale deal between Bologna and Basel.
I’m not sure how you see it like that, as we obviously went for him but got blown away by another club in a more desperate situation than ours with the ability to pay over the odds. It was left to the player and I guess he went for it. We can’t win them all, but it doesn’t mean we don’t go for these opportunities. A lot of our recent transfers have worked because the player wants us and only us. Guess this guy didn’t
Yoro would have been good if he had come here because we have a strong and deep history of developing young players. The enviornment, the dressing room, the coaching staff, everything supports the progression of a young player. United has proven to be the exact opposite. We're not paying that fee though.
