Man Utd already have 2 LBs: Luke Shaw that got a contract for another 2 years(until 2027) and he earns 7mil euros. Patrick Dorgu was purchased only this January by Utd by Amorim request. so I don't really understand why should they active their buy back on Álvaro Carreras?
United are not exactly in a great position financially. don’t they have some of the sell on portion of Carreras?
His attitude was piss poor all season. Third game in vs Lazio, he was called out for deciding to stay all the way on the other side of the pitch with the other failure Leao while entire team was gathered around coach in a cooling break. He was benched vs Genoa and Verona back to back. He was taken out at half time against Parma by new coach a month in to the job. He had the debacle vs Feyenoord where he cost his team the UCL. He was arguing mid play with Dodo from Fiorentina while a player went past him into the box. He was just benched vs Roma this past game. All lies.
I've been thinking about the importance of the fullback positions lately. It's funny because on one sense it feels like it's not as important as other positions. Fullbacks don't have to be world class offensively or defensively. But conversely, they do have to be good at both. In a time where the position seems so lacking in talent like those of the past, I can see the argument about how they have become more important than ever. Look at the two CL finalists with Hakimi+Nuno and Dumfries+DiMarco. The position has become the glue of the whole system. They don't have to be the most technically talented players on the pitch, but if they're off, everything falls apart. Teams press through the flanks, build through the flanks, overload wide areas, so your fullbacks are constantly involved in all phases of the game. There are less and less Marcelo or Dani Alves type fullbacks, but you can't get away with basic competence at the position. You can't have fullbacks that are top in one thing, but need to be great in four or five things. Swiss army knife versatile type players.
That's was this season. I am not that high on Carreras but Theo simply isn't elite in my opinion. Good player, good athlete but really nothing wild
€18m buy-back clause which they could activate this summer. United could yet activate the buy-back option and sell him for around €30-35m. But i guess we want him for the CWC so we don't care about saving 15-20m. Also, you don't know how the negation with Man Utd and they would want also to sell him for 50m+ to make a profit.
Not quite sure about that if I'm honest. Davies had barely played any serious football in his entire life when Bayern got him. It has become a track runner position.
Davies was playing professional football in the MLS at 15 years old. Playing in their academy well before that. You may not consider that "serious football", but he's been playing football most of his life. It's not like Bayern picked up a random track star and taught him football from scratch. I think you undersell him because of where he is from and that leads to underselling the position as a whole.
That's because he loves Madrid and is so desperate to come here he's purposefully lowering his transfer value and sending an SOS for the club to rescue him. And if you look at the analytics...12/4765312+2(77-94000+32*10)= Theo. I like Theo. I like Hakimi. The timing is perfect for their returns to the club, it's a shame we are going to settle for 3rd, 4th options just to avoid haggling over transfers.
You write any delusional crap, but this is just another lvl. Hakimi renewed is contract until 2029 and their isn't no way that P.S.G will sell any player to us, espiceliy a star. when was the last time they sold a star to someone? I also don't understand, you just called T.A.A as 3rd/4rd option?
You just described a pretty ordinary season. You can do this for everyone. Do this for Vini and the paragraph would be a book. Zero justification for going for a worse player for more money.
The first thing they asked him at Bayern was if he had converted from tackle football or basketball. His read of the game was bad and his technique far behind. Being an elite athlete and coachable is considered to be what gave him life at the club. The position is the one that requires the least ball talent on the field.
Because apparently hes better than Theo Hernandez and unlike him and Davies hes not "just an athlete"
Theos brother is one of the most brutal Bayern busts ever by the way. Just shocking. Just went to check what he's been up to and found out Lucas has been found guilty of multiple domestic abuse charges. Hope he drives an Uber.
I really enjoy watching technically gifted wing backs play in a four-man defence, their ability to offer a team a consistent way out of breaking a press is super important. I’m really looking forward to seeing Trent play for us. Also if Theo’s intrinsic attributes were on par with his technical ability he’d have been a monster for us as well after Marcelo, but sadly wasn’t to be. Back in 2017 he reminded me of a bigger, stronger and quicker Leighton Baines (who is one of my fave wing backs ever).
This was a Milan where expectations are dirt low and they’re rating him alive and can’t wait to ship him out. But anyway, no changing people’s minds.
Still waiting for an explanation on what this "lifestyle" is that is going to bring this prophesized decline.
Dude, enough people already explained to you why the club doesn't want Theo. You are just doing the same thing you did when Kylian came to club and nobody even looked at direction of Osimhen.
I think the fullback position has evolved massively. I think that while it appears that it requires less ball talent compared to, say, a central midfielder or a No. 10, the demands are just different now. Modern fullbacks are expected to be everything: fast, smart, technical enough, defensively solid, and tactically versatile. You might not need Modric-level touch, but you do need to be good on the ball in tight spaces, under pressure, and constantly involved in transitions. They have to be able to beat everyone for pace down the flanks but also savvy enough to tuck into central midfield to dictate and establish numerical advantages. The role is so physically and mentally demanding that you rarely see superstars playing there, not because it’s easy, but because it’s hard to find someone who checks every box. That’s why clubs take a shot on athletic, coachable players and try to mold them into fullbacks, not because the role is simple, but because the position is so versatile that the market is thin for players without major weaknesses. You can’t throw just any runner out there and hope for the best. If you’re a defensive liability, or you can’t progress play, or you struggle with positioning, you get exposed fast.
Unlike the Benfica expectations Theo at this point has outgrown Milan and a comeback here would be logical but alas. Reputations and narratives before logic.
TAA is a top player, I don't have many questions but I rate Hakimi and Frimpong higher. None of them are at a prime Carvajal level Kimmich is a player the club should have been inquiring about when his contract was winding down and Dani was sitting in the hospital. Kyle Walker went to AC Milan in January and the club sat on its hands. Dumfries looks legit as well. TAA on a free transfer is a deal that's too good to pass up but the player himself isn't .
Ok a top 5 leftback is not at the required level, but then you always complain about costs of fullbacks. So the more expensive top 50 leftback is the way to go. Just contradiction after contradiction because of sheer obstinacy.
