I love how he isn't afraid to break the line running forward at any moment. Makes it harder to take chances for opponents and makes them need more discipline.
I'm sure he's got some of potential, but I get the feeling the club is pushing these transfers through because it's all they can get before the CWC and not because it's the best they can get. Sure it would cost more and take longer to get more proven players but at the same time I'm wondering if Liverpool isn't getting the better player with Frimpong while we are celebrating TAA.
I’m not surprised if this is true. 🚨 BREAKING: Luka Modrić is expected to STAY!Xabi Alonso’s REQUEST. @RadioMARCA pic.twitter.com/uwOQMqrhg0— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) May 18, 2025

I honestly couldn't care less who is going to go for him. I said many times making assessments of a player through that particular heuristic is simply stupid. "Oh this team wants him, he must be good". F*ck that. I have seen enough of the player to know his quality without using rumours as a cue for it. There is zero doubt that Theo is a worldclass leftback, proven yet far from old. Fonseca and Conceicao are poor coaches and I dont care about their method of motivating their squad by making examples of their star players. There is zero evidence that Theo is a problematic character. No, what happened at Madrid when he was a kid 10 years ago doesnt count. But there is a reason why we bought him then and that was his talent. He has chemistry with Mbappe for France and god knows we need as much of that as we can. Carreras over Theo is literally nothing except being prisoner of the moment and hype for some new guys. We can make the leftback position maybe the best in the world for mere 30 million by signing Theo and Miguel.
Well, we do need some experience and madridista spirit in the dressing room , especially in the last phase of the season and hard moments.
Cause this season has gone so well with Modric’s leadership. For the record I’m not blaming Modric, but there is a lot of over valuing him in that area.
Theo seems like a solid option but in games where he's bad he's BAD, literally morphs into a potato. Hard to explain.
Liverpool had a defensively good Robertson as LB with TAA on the other side. Theo getting benched at 27 for being lazy and RM not wanting him back after going through Marcelo 2018-22 experience is not surprising. Get Carreras if his defensive performance against Yamal is sustainable.
Stiller is definitely a Xabi request, doubt he'd want Modric to stay. The guy obviously has his flashes of genius still but he doesn't have the legs. It's time for him to go.
I don't think we'll see much progress with Stiller if at all. Has a buyout clause for about 38 mil. that checks in next summer (so he's open market right now) and Stuttgart can buy out his transfer clause for 4 mil. Without asking him. Definitely a much trickier transfer. Almost inclined to say that I just feel like it might take months to get this to a price the club might be comfortable with.
60 ME was the reported valuation by Stuttgart when Liverpool were linked with him couple of weeks back.
Xabi played with Modric. Given their personalities and footballing ability, there must be strong mutual admiration there.
He doesn't want the headache of deciding who wears the #10. Neither does Flo because if Mbappe wants the #10 the decision not to buy a #9 will become untenable. Modric can't be counted on to play anymore and as things stand the team doesn't and won't have a true "9" or "10", yikes.
He's everyone's favorite teammate and gives Xabi a connection to the squad that should help him get the rest of the team on board with his vision. I'm good with it.
He's like a cute kitten that can do magic with the ball. As long as Güler and Camavinga are ahead of Grandpa in the pecking order and and this doesn't prevent the club from signing a top drawer CM, it's all good.
If Xabi is asking for Modric to stay, its not to be last choice in the pecking order. Probably won't be this season but I see a shock sale of one of Fede, Cama or Tchou next summer for a CM like Stiller.
