So if we're to believe that 3CB with 2 wingbacks it would look something like this? Vini-Mbappe Jude Carreras-Tchou-Fede-Trent Huijsen-Rudiger-Asencio
If we don't put up enough goals this formation will be used as a "he plays 5 defenders! Negative football!" stick to beat the new coach with.
We still need a midfielder who can pass the ball no matter what formation we play. Think Thouameni is abit redundant in a 352.
5 At the back doesnt necessarily mean a defensive style. Specially if Xabi's possession is in the 60% range. What does "if we don't put up enough goals" even mean?
🚨 NEW: Liverpool are VERY worried that what happened with Trent Alexander-Arnold could happen again with Ibrahima Konaté.His contract ends in 2026 and he hasn’t renewed yet, and Real Madrid are interested. @jfelixdiaz pic.twitter.com/3EQTaOMwZh— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) May 16, 2025 🚨 NEW: Liverpool are NOT making it easy for Trent Alexander-Arnold to go to the Club World Cup due to what’s happening with Ibrahima Konaté.They’re worried that another important player could go to Real Madrid for FREE. It’s a matter of pride, not money. @jfelixdiaz pic.twitter.com/2gGuE7Li3K— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) May 16, 2025 Someone has an idea about CWC rules? Can TAA be registered for the tournament on July 1 so that he can play in knockout stage?
I still think we are one quality CB short if we play 3 at the back, if we hedge our bets on Militao / Alaba / Joan Martinez / Jacobo, we might be ok to play a 3-5-2 system. But as things currently stand, I think we'll play a 4-man midfield. Also, there's far too much "pump chat" regarding Joan Martinez for my liking. He's still recovering from an ACL, and although he's still young, has the legs and build of a gazelle.

Scoring in volume. There was a talkshow round about whether Xabi can be a success in Madrid and most of the talk was that he knows that the bernabeu will start boohing if the team doesn't play with scoring as many goals in mind as possible. The club doesn't sign all those star players for us to win 2-0 and 2-1.
Would we be saying this if we were at the end of last season in top form? Yes, it's a summer tournament and it remains to be seen how serious the clubs will take it, but at the very least we should want to win and improve our level of play. Fifa has allowed new players to be registered for the Club World Cup from 1-10 June, and again from 27 June-3 July for the knockout stage.

I’m not feeling this price for Carreras, he looks better than what we have, but I’d pay the extra money and get Kerkez instead, who looks higher quality to me.
