At the end of that match I deleted the game off my DVR and basically went into non-football mode for the next couple weeks. And I vowed to never ever watch that match again(or highlights of the game). It was probably the worst night I ever had as a sports fan(only Syracuse/Arkansas '95 NCAA tourny comes close). But right now with the prospect of washing away that night with a victory over Liverpool on the 23rd of May I'm extremely tempted to watch the debacle in Istanbul again. I've already taken the first step by downloading the game. I've not yet caved in and watched it. I'm just wondering if anybody else out there has watched the game again? And if so, how painful was it? Should I do it?
Only the first half...lol I only woke up in time to see extra time and penalties, and they didn't show highlights.
That's cheating If I'm gonna watch I'm gonna watch the whole thing. I don't mean to sound like a prick...but how the ******** can you not watch the whole CL Final??? You call yourself a Milan fan??? Please redeem youself by telling me you have narcolepsy.
Don't do that to yourself! Be positive, watch highlights of Milan. All that negative energy is not good for your health. Sorry to get all hippie on you.
I've never watched that game again, I've only seen highlights and I felt really bad so watching the whole game would make me feel worse.
ive seen the highlights on youtube numerous times n have almost cried everytime i c highlights of it...but what knocks us down only makes us stronger...if losing that way will let milan never give up from now on..small price to pay..we have a chance to avenge our loss but more importantly show what milan can do wit one of the worst luck in recent years...i dont think we should forget that game because it taught us things not to do n taught us valuable lessons...but i dont think we should have to technically relive it by watchin it again...hopefully this may 23 we will have a new better memory!
It seems you guys are as scared of that match as me. But the real reason I was contemplating watching this match again is because I saw an interview with Rino and he said he watched that match a couple times on his 2005 summer vacation. And if he can bring himself to watch that match again why can't I?
Personally I think every Milan player who played in that final should watch that tape right before Athens. Once man has suffered so deeply he can learn things about his own human condition by facing his fears regardless how grave they are. This Milan has experienced so much together; the good stuff and the God awful bad. I think after all they've been through its safe to say that nothing can be done to them that hasn't already been done which makes our Milan boys invincible. Win or lose the final, they can take extreme pride in knowing that despite a mediocre season they know how to turn it on when it counts, and as a huge supporter I'm extremely grateful.
LOL. The game was a quality game. It wasn't a disaster like the game Roma suffered recently. Liverpool had some good luck that night, Milan did up until the half time. I think players need to experience games like that so they know better next time. Complacency and fatigue can be a team's worst enemy. Although the one thing that did bother me about that game was the Gerrard call, not sure if it was a dive or tackle, but it wasn't conclusive enough to call a PK IMO. I guess fate took it's course though.
considering I blacked out of footie until about October of that year, no I still haven't watched it. Course, being a Gunner's fan as well, I'm in this major funk and ready to give up the game... Thank god for the Azzurri in june saving and making a moment of my lifetime!!! another q: Did anyone else who saw last years FA final have Vietnam-esque flashbacks???
At half time I was going to turn it off and go mow the lawn or something. That would be better than slamming my head back against the chair making slow moaning noises. I stuck it out... and Guess what...... Now I only watch the second half and the PKs...
HAHA, funny visual. I tend to do the same thing strangely enough, or start banging on the table or anything near.
I tried to watch the delayed replay at 4 in the morning, but the actual match went on so long that the replay got cancelled. Living in Australia is inconvenient.
keep the first half, edit the 2nd half by making Yankerpools goals all become own goals and count to Milan so it ends Milan 6-0, the final was a fluke & I hope it will never happen again and Yankerpool fluke it otherwise it will be a joke, Milan deserved to win the 2005 Champions League it didn't deserve to be Yankerpools, it was a trapesty
was the 2nd worst night in sports history to me(hollands awfull loss to italy at EC 2000 was the worst)
I watched the first half a few months ago. The first half was excellent, class play by Milan. Kaka was amazing... that pass on the third goal was one of the most amazing assists I've ever seen. Personally though I think Gattuso should have been sent off on that penalty. It was an obvious clip from behind, trying to prevent a clear goal scoring oppurtunity in the penalty box.
I took the plunge * Clearly luck wasn't on our side that night. * Sheva had a good goal(imo) disallowed in the first half. * Two of Liverpool's goals were lucky to stand. * The 2nd goal came after the referee ignored the linesman flagging for offsides. He let play continue and Liverpool took advantage of Milan's back four(who were pointing to the linesman) and Smicer caught Dida off guard. * Gerrard went down in the box after Rino breathed on him. And the bastards had the nerve to ask for a red. Especially since 10 minutes earlier Hyppia brought down Kaka' just as he was going in a goal. * Dudek was three yards off his line on every penalty. * The only break we got all night was the ref not calling a penalty on Nesta in the box. Although, the more you look at it it was clear the ball hit hand and there was no way he could have got his arms out of the way(his arms were against his body) **********END ANGRY RANT*********** * Kaka' was MOM in the first 45 minutes. The little pass to Sheva that set up Crespo was great. Only to be topped by the 40 yard pass to Crespo for the third goal. * But after HT Kaka' was never seen again. He looked like he was 50 years old out there in the 2nd half. He could barely run. I remember a couple times he picked up the ball at midfield with 20 yards of green in front of him and he just walked 5 yards and passed the ball backwards. The Kaka' of 2007 would run at every opportunity. * Sheva was largely disappointing for the first 80 minutes. He lacked aggressiveness. But he picked it up in extra-time. How he didn't score with 5 minutes left in extra-time is still a mystery. * Nesta was immense all night. I can't blame him for any of the goals. He won every one on one challenge on the night. * It's unfortunate Serginho missed his penalty because he played great when Ancelotti brought him on in the 2nd half. One of his crosses should have resulted in a goal. * Liverpool played as I remembered it. They had that spell from the 52nd to 65th minutes where they had Milan on the back foot. If they went on to lose the match they would have regretted taking the pressure off Milan. Milan were a beaten side at that moment. Liverpool really should have taken advantage of it. * But other than that spell Milan controlled the whole game. * Steven Gerrard didn't help Liverpool much offensively but he was their best defender on the night(with respect to Jaime Carragher). With Steve Finnan taken off at half time Gerrard had to cover the whole right side himself. And he did remarkably well. Anyways, I think I'm now able to close the book on Istanbul and fully look ahead to Athens. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be
Well, I probably could but to revisit that match would be tough, the minute you start watching, you know the outcome. Well, Shevchenko must be feeling pretty frustrated. If he hadn't left AC, he'd be looking at another Champions League title, instead of being at Chelsea where they lost the premiership and are out of the CL. But yeah, it would be difficult to watch that match again, I personally would for some of the great goals.
i don't even want to watch the highlights. i know that watching that match will get me even more pumped up for Athens but if for some ill twist of fate (like in 2005) we lose i will get even more pissed off. I should probobly watch the game in a straight jacket
I think I made up for watching "Istanbul 2005" again by watching "Athens 2007" 6 times already I've seen all these versions since Wednesday: ESPN2 ITV Sky Sports(UK) Sky Sports HD(UK) Sky Sport 1(Italia) Milan Channel(English version) I know, I need to get a life
I've watched the Istanbul about 5 times in the last 2 years include once before Wednesday. It was quite entertaining match much more so than Athens 2007 with the exception of the final result of course. Oh I alway fast forward through the 6 minutes everytime I watch it.
