Just curious. As to how popular Italian Calcio (National side and Serie A), are with people that are not Italian at all?
My mate is Lebanese and supports Fiorentina. As for me my father was born and grew up in AP (ascoli piceno - appignano del tronto), however i'm born in Aus, and my mum was born in the Philippines.
I'm 100% Italian, born and bred on Italian calcio. My mom is from a small town in Provincia di Salerno and my dad is from a small town in Provincia di Matera.
my mom's family is from Italy but moved to ARgentina after WW2, so she was born in argentina. my dad's family is from Italy. They come from up in the mountains of Abruzzo. My dad supports AC Milan although he's a fan of the club closest to where my family is from but they are rarely in the top division and will get relegation to Serie C this season (Pescara Calcio)
0% italian, though I can read/speak italian, and love italian football and even the azzurri (granted I know nothing about usa football whatsoever and the first guys I watched and loved were baggio and maldini, so when it came time for world cups, it was natural to root for gli azzurri, so now I am a huge fan of the national team, i guess tha would be weird, but whatever, that's how it is). i actually don't know what my ancestry is, other than part indian (native american, not asian), but it isn't italian
I'm born and raised in montreal quebec, but my dad is from Caserta. My mom was also born here in montreal but her parents are from Campobasso. When i was a kid we would make frequent trips to italy. In 2002 i became a dual citizen and i lived in florence for half a year to attend a school of design. It's easy for me to follow serie A because of my close ties with italy. Also i live in an predominately italian community in montreals east end. As for those who are not even italian and follow our league and national team, i think it's flattering especially since these days all american soccer fans have jumped on the epl bandwagon.
I voted that I'm not Italian at all (born and raised here in the USA), but I feel that is not fully correct, as I always say that my heart is Italian - because it is.
I'm one of those footie lovin Americans, BUT I couldn't tell you really that much about the US side. I knew only a few players on Team USA in the WC. I knew every player and their club for: England Italia Espana France etc. I guess, I have my American sports and sports teams. Calcio will always be something special and NOT American. Sorry, MLS...I watch you on occasion and have been to some matches; but it just isn't the same. P.S. I love Italy's food, history, culture, etc. Also Italian is 1 of the most beautiful languages on Earth, IMHO.
My dad's Italian and comes from sedico, near Belluno, and my mom is from Malaysia. I was born near Rome, and am an Italian citizen but live in England now.
Does the "yes" option include people who have Italian ancestry or do they have to be Italian-born? Anyway, my dad is Italian (he comes from San Vito sullo Ionio, province di Catanzaro) and my mum comes from the Phillippines. I was born in Australia.
Entire family born in Napoli. I am the lone U.S.-born member. Spent some years in Napoli as a young boy.
Cassano - My mother is from Pontecagnano, in between Salerno and Battipaglia. Where is your mother from? My father is from a small town in the Provincia di Foggia, Roseto Valfortore.
San Pietro al Tanagro. It's really small, only about 2000 people, but it's about 30 minutes away from Pontecagnano. I always pass Pontecagnano on the Autostrada when I'm going to my mom's town.
Father is from Frosinone, mother is from Brocastella/Sora. I've spent a lot of time over in Italy, but consider myself American of Italian descent.
Both of my parents are Italian immigrants having come over in their 20s. they met here. I was born here but still have a lot of family in Italy. My team is Milan because I have an uncle who lives there. I got acclomated to the club thru him. I was there for a big match against Juve back in fall '93. I've been a fan ever since.
I think about it every day. It isn't feasible until the kids move out though and even then, I think it would be a part-time thing. I'd move up north though instead of in Napoli. City is too crowded for my liking.
Mother is from Vieste. I was born State-side. My first professional match attended was at Stadio Olympico, Roma v. Milan. Am just beginning the process of getting my Italian passport. We'll see how/if it goes.
Nope, born in the US but I'll always love Milan. My grandpa was born in India but is 100 % Armenian, I'm Armenian, Irish, and Polish, but I wish I there was some Italian in there.
