Will there be any more votes? Am I the only person who thinks this is silly? Will Italo-Americanos be insulted if the English one is selected?
[English Major Voice] Alright, this has just gotten too silly...Move along...Nothing to see here...Move along...too silly...[/English Major Voice]
As soon as the Metrostinkers start making fun of our new tagline, there will be cries for a new tagline.
Re: Re: How many polls will we have to determine what the tagline should be? What's silly is the idea that there were a total of what, three or four threads dedicated to this, and that what looks to be the likely winner is a quote from Dante in the original Italian. How would I do it differently? I wouldn't do it at all. I mean, hell, just pick something. What was so bad about "United We Stand?"
Re: Re: Re: How many polls will we have to determine what the tagline should be? Been standin' in 135 since 1996 And I think we should stand United for our team thru the bad times as well as the good. So I'm with you Mike...... Let it stand.
Re: Re: Re: Re: How many polls will we have to determine what the tagline should be? I only voted for one of the two choices because those were the only choices offered. In fact "United We Stand"! was not even on the poll, despite a few people wanting that tagline (It is incredible that the reigning tagline was not even included). But, I too would like keep "United We Stand"!
Re: Re: Re: How many polls will we have to determine what the tagline should be? I don't think that there's anything wrong with having a slightly intellectual tagline. Most users of our board are white collar workers and students who should be learned enough to A. Recognize the quote, even if they have to look up what it means B. Remember hearing about Dante or actually reading The Inferno C. Be comfortable enough with their intelligence not to feel threatened because someone calls us nerdy, or whatever the bourgeoisie might call us I agree with your point about the thread overkill, but, I think the mods correctly handled the situation. Maybe we could just include the current tagline as a choice next time we have an update the tagline poll rather - but we would still need to gather nominees and vote separately to respect community member's individual preferences.
I can tell you this is the last vote. If something happens to screw up this one then I'm just picking the damn thing with the other mods. I can only speak for myself on this matter but I didn't like United We Stand because 1) it'd been there for years 2) I was put off by the patriotic/jingoistic (depending on your point of view) implications.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: How many polls will we have to determine what the tagline should be? We had a vote to decide whether to change it, and it lost. Therefore, there was no reason to include it in the list of nominees.
Re: Re: Re: Re: How many polls will we have to determine what the tagline should be? I think part of the problem was that the current tagline was not made a choice.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: How many polls will we have to determine what the tagline should be? Lanky's explanation of this is correct.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: How many polls will we have to determine what the tagline should be? Lost is a "relative" term. The poll question was: Should we change the tagline. The yes option won. Not unlike the "Cheer up- we won't get relegated". The only difference is that when the former poll was conducted, it was made to stand. While when the latter poll was conducted the result was declared invalid. Look, nothing personal and I stand by my vote, but I can see why certain people are not happy with what has taken place.
Just to clarify THIS mod really likes our current tagline and sees NO reason whatsoever to change it. I've abstained from voting in the other poll because I don't like any of the options listed. But despite my jackbooted thuggery on these boards, apparently some democratically minded people seek change, I was unable to quash this idea of changing the line. As for the multiple threads about the voting, I agree that it has gotten silly. The tone of them seems to take this all a bit too seriously. BTW - the real reason they didn't include the current tagline in the poll is because it would have won. While a majority want change, they are divided among several options so the large minority that don't want to change would win due to the majority splitting among several new taglines. As for the jingoistic nature of it - RUBBISH! We had our tagline about a year before September 2001! The manufacturers of the United We Stand materials actually STOLE our line! And as Chico pointed out: We in the Nest and Barra and La Norte STILL STAND for DC UNITED! I'll sign off now because even this rant is taking this whole thing too seriously...
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: How many polls will we have to determine what the tagline should be? Which means that people wanted a change from "United We Stand." The majority spoke, simple as that. An incumbent still has to run in a primary. If it loses, it doesn't get to run in the general election regardless of how popular it had once been. What is this, the Rapids boards with everybody taking a silly little color change personally?
The latter poll wasn't declared invalid. It just didn't express any clear majority. I opened the question of whether to invalidate it and start again at nominations because the voting was so strange but folks didn't seem to support that move. So we just moved onto the runoff.
Not true. This poll (https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=49325) asks, without suggestions, whether or not the tagline should be changed. Once the decision to change it was made, nominations were submitted for a new tagline. Agreed. The patriotic angle was only brought up when the last decision to keep it was made.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: How many polls will we have to determine what the tagline should be? That was precisely my point there was no primary.
