Altidore, Torres, Adu I think will be almost a gurantee (yes Adu not Edu) The rest of the team is that age where they will fall around 32-33 ish. I say only 2-3 will be starters and the rest will be off. Our backline should be intresting with the whole line/subs will need to be replaced.
There are more than 2-3 players that will be back. Bradley, Edu, Holden, Bornstein, Spector, Howard, Guzan, Donovan, Dempsey will all be back.
I actually don't think Howard, Bradley, Spector will be back. one out of the Dempsey and Donovan will be around. Both will be in the 31-32 and Donovan requires speed to beat people. Dempsey seems to be better on the ball IMO. Edu and Holden have decent chances, depending on what USA has for the cycle. Guzan and Bornstein are probably starters.
There are more players that will be back then gone? Most of the starting defense won't be there in 2014: Dolo, Boca, Demerit Gooch is borderline depending on how his injury goes. Clark has to find some real form in Germany but he's still young enough. Donovan and Dempsey will be there most likely.
I'd be pretty surprised if Donovan isn't there. If Blanco can be fat and 37 and playnat a world cup, I don't see why Landon can't. Bradley will probably be the centerpiece of our team. Dempsey will be there. So will Howard. Gooch too. Altidore obviously.
Michael Bradley is 24, and will spend the next four years playing is as good a league as any American Outfield player with the exception of Dempsey. He might even upgrade from the Bundesliga... I wouldn't be surprised. He'll be a stallwart on this team next cycle and probably play a part in the 2018 cycle. Refer back to this post in 4-8 years. Even after we fire Bob, Michael will end up "All-Time USMNT 11" caliber.
Donovan will definately be back unless he decides to retire from international play himself (doubt it - too early). I fully expect he'll be the captain for 2014, although he might play centrally instead of on the wing. Dempsey will also be back, but probably not as a guaranteed starter (depends on who else emerges in the midfield). For the people saying Bradley won't be back - you are insane! Not only will he be back, he will likely be one of the "star" players on the team. He is young, already one of the best US players, and should only be better in four years. Howard, I don't see any reason he wouldn't be back at 35 which is still prime for a goalkeeper. The only obvious ones who will not be back are Hahnemann, Bocanegra, Beasley (mostly because he's been a "speed" player, which is something he won't have), DeMerit, Cherundolo, Buddle maybe Gomez and it's probably 50/50 for Onyewu (32 won't be terribly old for a defender, but he might not be a starter). Holden, Torres, Goodson, Guzan, Feilhaber and Altidore should all be back depending on where their careers go from here (Altidore in particular is at a real crossroads). The bigger questions are who else will emerge in the next four years? Probably at least a few players few of us have heard of now, a few current youth players and up and coming MLS or under-the-radar overseas players. Also, keep in mind that Adu is still only 20, and while I definately think he's deserved his criticism and was not ready for this World Cup, he may well become a valuable player in the next few years too. Charlie Davies, if he can recover well (it's hard to say) will also definately be there. Overall, I think there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic for the future. It should be a considerably stronger team in 2014. Now, excuse me while I go and continue to wallow in the pain of the day...
Hopefully not Michael Bradley. I've seen enough. The worst first touch of anyone on the squad but Beasley. Not a very good passer. No vision. Our inside mid who's played every minute of every game for the past 4 years. As we saw today, "grinders" (guys who work hard but have marginal skills) will only take you so far.
If you think Michael Bradley is the problem with this team, I would recommend you not watch the team for the next 7 or 8 years.
Or stop watching soccer altogether. Anyone who watched the US play and thought Michael Bradley was poor must not understand the game (or maybe have some strange personal chip on their shoulder)...
The only players that have a chance or should be considered are Dempsey and M Bradley. If I were the new coach I would start looking for new players and hope to find something better, clearly this group just cannot do it, they not worthy to wear the US uniform anymore. Unless we are happy to be at this level for many World Cups to come.
Your joking right??? Bradley is gonna be the next big star of the national team so you should start rooting for another country if you think he is trash like you say
You're joking too right? And a member since 1999? Not even Donovan or Howard asked back? Edu? Benny? Where do you expect to find these 21 new talents?
Just keep on living in that dream world there. Is his coach in Germany also paid off by Bob to play him?
My opinion, chances for 2014: Most likely: Bradley, Donovan, Edu, Howard, Guzan, Holden, Altidore Probably: Dempsey Maybe: Torres, Feilhaber, Spector, Bornstein, Clark, Onyewu Probably not: Beasley, Bocanegra, Findley, Goodson Almost no chance: Cherundolo, Buddle, DeMerit, Gomez, Hahnemann Code: Best chance↓ Bradley Clark Donovan Onyewu Edu Beasley Howard Bocanegra Guzan Findley Holden Goodson Altidore Cherundolo Dempsey Buddle Torres DeMerit Feilhaber Gomez Spector Hahnemann Bornstein ---Worst chance--- Full disclosure, I'm a fan of Holden and not a fan of DeMerit or Findley. I'd say we have at the very least 6, up to about 13 or so back from the 2010 roster.
I do not know where , but we better start looking under every rock, on the streets and on soccer fields that we haven't looked before. Clearly our soccer program is not working, teams like Ghana, Ivory Coast,, and most African /Asian teams are passing US. If you can except mediocrity and to stay at this level then keep the players and the program, but do not expect anything more. This guys make too many unforced errors and when given the chance they can't do anything with the ball, clueless. There is no way we will have more then 5- 6 players returning in 2014
How is Ivory Coast passing us? I don't even think we've ever played them. Every other African team besides Ghana didn't make it out of the first round. As for Asia, I would say we are better or as good as most of them. I guess its only normal on BS to get way too down after a loss.
I would think most players would be back, and we would have a fully matured, able-bodied veteran squad of 32 and 33 year olds ready to make a serious run for the World Cup. I think the real question is what new 20 & 21 year old players will emerge as breakout stars that end up on the team in the next 4 years.
you forget who Ivory Coast had to play right, they were in the group of Death in the last 2 WC's, and yes i am pissed and very disappointed. We may never EVER in our lifetime have another chance like this to move on into the semifinals of the WC. This guys shited on us the US fan.
