How many MLS players do you think will eventually be called up for their national team?

This would be a good question, right?

For the 23-man World Cup rosters you mean? Probably around 15. Maybe around 10 from the US. 3 or 4 from Honduras. Beckham, Blanco. That's it right?

Not counting Americans, here's the breakdown of players born in WC countries in MLS:

    Argentina: 14
    Brazil: 10
    Cameroon: 3
    England: 4
    France: 2 (Baudet, Le Toux)
    Germany: 1 (Wicks)
    Ghana: 4
    Honduras: 4
    Japan: 1 (Kimura)
    Mexico: 5
Netherlands: 2 (van den Berg, Khalifi)
    New Zealand: 3
    Nigeria: 3
    Portugal: 1 (Riberio)
    Serbia: 1 (Kocic)
    Spain: 1 (Celades)
    Switzerland: 1 (Frei)

18 of 32 countries represented. Most likely there will be MLS players with the Yanks and Hondurans, and mabe the Mexicans and the English.

Sorry Lawrence about the under 23, I just misread. I think there will be more than just a few. We will be well represented I think. I will make a possible list later.

Duncan Oughton could very well be in the mix from NZL, too.

Throw in those three, count Becks/Blanco if you want to (tricky to define as neither will be playing in MLS when the WC starts), throw in Guevara along with 1-2 of Marvin Chavez, Maurice Castro, and Roger Espinoza from Honduras, and however many US guys.

Hard to say with the US. Rico and Stu look like they're gone, Lando looks like he's staying. Marshall, Bornstein, and 2 of Cunningham, Ching, and Casey probably make it.

You could also maybe see Onyewu or Charlie Davies (fingers crossed) maybe make a loan rehab here.

According to this link here: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/international/article6943557.ece

Using the list posted above which team is likely to benefit from this the most? The one with the most players or the ones who have less players but go farther?

10 from the US? Holden and Clark are already leaving. Bornstein appears likely to be headed out, but we don't know whats going to happen with Donovan yet. That leaves Ching, Casey, Marshall, Rogers, Hejduk, and Kljestan of guys in MLS who will have a CHANCE to make the 23, and probably only 3 or 4 of them make it.

Are we going to count Beckham since he'll be at Milan? Maybe a couple for Honduras and New Zealand. There aren't going to be very many.

Obviously I was counting Holden, Clark, Bornstein and Donovan as part of the 10. Cunningham and Cameron are 2 other players that have a shot depending on the recoveries of injured players. And it was a very quick guesstimate. But yes, if all four of those guys are gone, then it will be a lower number.
