I have around 600. I think I need about another 1,400 before my collection is really solid. I need to get more reggae, Indian music, Chinese music, Okinawan music, Johnny Cash, Cuban music, Brazilian music & African pop and things will start looking a little better.
I've got about 200 plus. As for vinyl, I have well over a thousand. For the longest time, I'm a stickler for vinyl and just flat out refused to join in the times; finally I caved in. Now, there seems to be a slurge of new vinyls BUT I am now buying only cd's, because of the portability. To be truthful, i didin't spend very much $ - thank god for college radio stations and that "for demo only" stuff !
Loads and loads but I collect them. Always the last four months of the year I pick up the most. This time around I picked up about 40. But I don't have to buy all of the cd's - sometimes labels give them. As for vinyls - that's on my fathers side. He has thousands. It is funny - he asks for my stuff, I ask for his. No problems. My parents house, they had it built. He had a room built specifically for his entertainment system - with large screen television and to perfectly house his music collection and stereo system. So I guess the music collecting runs in the family. I'm so anal about it that I have an inventory of every single CD that I own + the costs. As for the vinyls - I never went there. lol
Word, except it's my husband saying it. My collection is not that big - I took a long hiatus from music collecting when the kids were small. I didn't buy a cd player til about 95. I didn't own a stereo until I was out of college, due to lack of funds and the older siblings running off with the audio gear. On top of that, I try to buy used or "nice price" things, which reduces the overall selection. So, in numbers, my vinyl collection is about 400 and the cds are about 200. I'm trying to fill in gaps by buying best ofs and anthologies.
My insurance agent told me to do that and they keep a copy in their office. I update them every few months so it is accurate. Since I have a lot of import stuff (China, India, Australia, etc.) she said if I don't have documents, the most they can give is $15 per disc. I've paid up to $30 for single Okinawan CDs.
I'm not sure, must be around 250-300, the thing that sucks is that because i'm so bad at organizing half the time that i am looking for a cd that i know i have, i can't find it...
I never really counted how many I've got to be honest .there must be about 600+ in my collection. I've been buying fewer CD's since I started using Kazaa though.
I have probably around 200 CD’s , of which about 50 I keep under lock and key because there too embarrassing to be seen. I’ve tried selling them but nobody is dumb enough to buy them. That’s how bad they are. My vinyl collection mainly consists of Blues, Jazz, Bluegrass, and Elvis records, and numbers around 100.
Alphabetize and put them back after use, I say. I did just recently decide to put the anthologies in one place and the single artist cds in another. I was having too much trouble remembering where that dang boogie woogie collection was. The anthology collection's not so huge yet that I need to be too organized with them, but I can see a need for that happening really soon.
Probably only like 150 or so, though I have probably about 1000 tapes and something like 300 vinyl records, plus all the free mp3's. My music consumership has definately tailed off in the last 10 years.
So, Barbdett, did anyone ever tell you that the cat you use as avatar is really captivating, or am I just a weirdo?
Re: not really; I just think this is a stupid question. Barb - you're showing your femaleness there. Don't you know what a badge of honor it is to say you have over a thousand cds or records? It's a guy thing, mostly, but I'm also captivated by collecting music. As for the downloading thing, I'm also really into reading liner notes, cover art, lyrics, etc., so I don't find the downloading business quite as fun as owning the cd. Guess I'm old fashioned that way.
Re: Re: not really; I just think this is a stupid question. that's kind of how i am too. i will burn something i can't afford to buy yet, but with the intention of buying it later. As i said to a friend of mine about burning CDs, "I fully intend to buy it at some point, I'm just getting a headstart on enjoying it."
300 CDs - alphabetized by the name of the sound engineer. 500 records - sorted chronologically by ex-girlfriend they most remind me of.
I currently have about 1,425, and also use Excel to log them. Also have to keep them alphabetized in the racks simply to find anything.
Over 2,000 cds (but several hundred are crap and if anyone would buy them I'd sell 'em, but as I mentioned they're crap so no one will buy 'em and I can't bring myself to just throw them away, which I really should do). Over 1,000 lps. Which I rarely pull out to be quite honest.
do you have an industry job where you are getting lots of promos? i was hanging on to all this promo crap and finally just trashed it all the other day as no one was interested in it. now i'm down to a lean 600+ that i really love.
