Just wondering if a team like NY have 2 DPs what happens at the start of next season do they keep the 2 DP spots or does the extra spot return to whoever traded it to them???

The DP slots are traded for a pre-determined length of time when the original trade occurs.

I think the extra DP slot NY acquired was for more than one season, while LA's second slot returns to the original club at the end of this year.

I've read several times from different sources that the MLS is investigating a second DP slot per team called the "Domestic DP". Where as the current DP allows a player of any nationality, the Domestic DP will have to be American (or Canadian I guess). It's being called the "Landon Donavan" rule.

Interesting...let's see if the MLS goes through with it!
