I'm so laughing at DC if they use an allocation to get this kid. I mean, NY uses the fruit of their suckitude to bring in a Guevara, NE's suffering gets them a Cancela. And what is DC using their capital on? A teenager! It's nice to know that they will remain on the bottom of the table for a long time to come.
The DC board says we may have to give up our 1st pick as well. That's the one that bothers me a little. I know there have been plenty of busts for 1st picks but, I hate to give it up. Since the Burn are basically being forced to make the trade, they should at least be able to just give them the 3rd or 4th pick.

In return you get "future considerations" possibly including not an allocation but the ability to sign an extra foreign player (notice the difference). That's fine with me really, unless we wind up getting screwed out of Chad Marshall. Basically we're trading a #1 draft pick for an allocation. Not that bad really if that's how it plays out. But it damned well better be the "major" allocation.
That is the problem I have as well. What ever the outcome, Dallas should get the first pick in the draft after Adu is taken by D.C. Knowing Adu would never go anywhere but D.C., the draft remains unchanged. For Adu, Dallas should just trade the 3rd pick, not the 1st.

As far as the draft pick goes, it has to be the #1 pick. I'm sure MLS wants Adu to be a part of the draft "hype" and nothing but the #1 pick will actually get him.

No, it looks like you'll be getting more. According to Grant Wahl: I take that to mean that you'll be getting an allocation if Etch retires plus something else- probably a player. If Etch doesn't retire you'll probably be getting more than one player and/or a better player. We'll have to see if Etch retires first (probable).
It is my sincere hope that when Garber says that ". . . .He's playing with grown men, guys who are not going to care that Freddy's perceived as the great hope for the sport in this country. They're going to do everything they can to make sure he has a rough time." this does not mean that our professionals do NOT resort to hacking and fouls to this young man in to replace skill in defending against him. The last thing we need is to end or endanger his career by injury. Of course, someone will need to explain that to Dema in practice too.
Screwed It sounds like the Burn is going to get screwed out of the first pick. While Adu is unproven, why not take a chance on him? Plus it would definetly help fill the seats in Frisco. Why even have a draft if the league will step in and do crap like this. The Burn have to give up the #1 to help a rival. What other league would that happen in? I think this hurts the legitimacy of MLS.
Actually, I think that what he's saying is that it would be nice if a team that had a good, if not great, 2004 season were opening the Frisco stadium in 2005, sort of like how the defending champions opened the Home Depot Center this year. As to the deal, I don't know if we're getting screwed or not. It all depends on what DC is giving up. If we're getting DC's allocation for the impending Etcheverry retirement, plus a competent player already on DC's roster, then I'll be quite happy with the deal. But if all we're getting is Brandon Prideaux, then we got screwed. We won't know about how the deal works out for us until everything's final.
It is simple to explain the adu scenero. His mom wants him to stay in DC and has told mls that DC is the only play he will play if he comes to the mls. Gauber,whatever his name is an idiot. I would imagine Ben Olsen would look good on the right side of the field opposite O'Brien. Would Olson and an Allocation be too much for a pro40 player who is now the highest paid player in MLS? I think not. If DC sends a player with the allocation it will be someone who would step in and help right away. Who has the 2nd pick in the draft? I hope that we get first choice after DC "selects" Freddy Adu with the first pick we so kindly gave them. If someone else can swopp in with a #2 pick before our 3rd pick - that would be a bummer. Maybe the Burn told MLS that paying out the Dragon lease would be part of giving up the #1 pick to DC: "You want our # 1 pick - GET US THE HELL OUT OF HERE." Maybe we can get our mits on Ben Olsen to bookend Ronnie O'. Plus an allocation. I'd do that.
Sorry for the slow response. I am in Key West and just got back to my room. I have put in some calls to try and track it down. I think you will hear an announcement by Burn side sometime in next day or two, but I will try and find out if I can. -------------------- My OPINION is that giving up the #1 SHOULD be expensive. Giving them the #1 means you have no shot at Marshall. Columbus will be drooling at the chance to grab him #2. That is of course if Marshall comes into MLS. But the point will hold for whomever you want at the top of draft list. Since Burn already get an Allocation I am not sure I want another. What are the odds you hit on two allocations in one season? Plus cost to find them, perhaps they won't come until end of their current season where that would be. Instead I want 2 players... They have a few I like... Convey, Olsen, Nelson, Petke, and Reyes to name a few. Burn need proven players, not risky allocations. I like the idea posted above, give them the #3 and tell Columbus they can't pick Freddy. That sounds like a pan to me. Bottom line is you need to play hard ball and hold DC over the coals for this one.
I would love to see Ben with the Burn if he was the man he was four years ago. Right now, I think Davis is probably the better player. I want an allocation and DCs first and second round picks next year. A good allocation. Not the allocations the Burn usually gets. Say, more like the G Man than Mark Santel. A case of beer says we get screwed on this one. Worst scenario is that Chad Marsahl signs P-40 and gets taken by the Crew. Another case of beer says that happens.
