I mean I am surprised that they have any supporters with the way Utd dominated the 90's. City tickets must be very cheap or mainly for people who can't stand Utd.
Funny how sports fans are...they HATE you when you are winning and won't cheer for you when you are losing. I thought the point of cheering for them is so that they win. If fans should be mad, they should point the finger at their own team and say, "HEY...what the heck...don't u have any heart? Don't you want to win??"

Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Patrick

It's all about loyalty, Patrick. Fans don't just support a club because it's winning they have other loyalties. City have been a big club in the past and the supporters stick with them through bad times and the sons and daughters of those supporters become City fans .............

Maybe Patrick thinks that we only support United due to their recent era of success...

Patrick, support is not about winning & losing. It's about choosing a club or team in any sport & supporting it through the good times & the bad. If you stick with your club through the bad, then, when the good comes, it's just that much sweeter.

City has more Manchester based fans than United. The English, historically, love the underdogs and have more respect for the working class than they do the upper crust.

The question is, how much wil this change? You have to wonder about some clubs going bye-bye over the next few years. While Citeh probably isn't going to be one of those, you have to wonder if their fan base won't start to erode more as the kids that grew up in the 90s come of age where they can buy tickets, kits, etc on their own.

City sold more tickets the season they went back down to the 1st division a year or so back than they ever had. They have a very loyal, lifelong fanbase that you absolutely have to respect (well, most English clubs do, to be honest). Most season tickets are handed down from generation to generation. What makes you think they would start cheering for their biggest rivals??

City fans are raised to have respect for themselves and their history to not support United, ESPECIALLY just b/c United is winning more.

No offense, but you sound like the typical American sports fan. (yes, I know I'm American, so don't come back with that). You might as well go to some baseball boards and ask Mets fans why they're not cheering for the Yankees.

I've got to admit,I'm surprised at the positive things you lot have to say about City!! I'm a season ticket holder at City and I don't usually bother with other teams forums, but I felt a bit sorry for Fergie & the disgusting allegations against him in South Africa this week,so I thought I'd have a look on here to see if there was any comments about it! There is a lot of crap talked about United & there fanbase,I live & work in Manchester and in the past I've gone to derby games at Maine Rd & Old Trafford with mates who are reds,we've split up before the games & met up after to take the p**s
out of each other! My nieces are reds & can't understand why I'm a blue...I just tell them that you pays your money & you takes your choice! My dad was a red (to my eternal shame!!) but you can't go swapping & changing...my 1st match as a City fan was in 1974,my last will be the week I die!
If someone offered me £1000 & season tickets for life at OT I'd politely decline, but good luck to you lot...the voice of reason!

That’s right my man, you support your team through thick and thin.
I started with the ‘Pool Before Shankley, before they went down to the dark of Div. 2 and through the 7 lean years. Then came Billy Shankly followed by Bob Paisley and the glorious years.
It’s my team since childhood. You have to feel your club is it and you can deride the lesser 19 but don’t get stupid about it.

I know this should be about soccer, but I grew up as Phila Phillies fan starting in the mid 70's when they always had winning teams. I still to this day, even 3000 miles away, ride the emotional rollercoaster that Phillies fans have to endour. It is because my heart is in and I cant change it. I really wish I could say that about any MLS team. I think that if you are raised on a certain team and you love the game they play, you cant ever ever give up the part of them that is a part of you.

    Biggest Club in Manchester

It is often said that City are the biggest club in Manchester, but I am not so sure. Fans of other clubs like to say that there more City fans in Manchester than United, there were areas which are red or blue in Manchester, but the media, success and failure mean that although some areas are either more blue than red and others more red than blue, there is also a good mixture.

My brother-in-law is a City fan (his misfortune!) and says that because United are based in Trafford which has its own Council and City are based within the confines of Manchester City Council, then only City is the team of Manchester.

Its always interesting to listen to Liverpool fans on the debate about which Manchester club has the most fans in and outside of Manchester. Liverpool has a lot of fans outside Liverpool, which they share with Everton. You meet Liverpool fans all over the place. Although Liverpool and United are separated by the East Lancs Road, they both have lot of fans outside both Cities and throughout the world. United have a lot more fans for good reason, we play not just now, but have over time played more attractive and exciting football….and are not dead yet…..don’t write United off yet!

    I concur

I must admit the City vs. Utd match was probably the most exciting and crazy match I have watched in long time. City fans must live to beat Utd. It is like David beating Goliath. Has City ever won any top flight awards? They seem to play a pretty exciting style of football against Utd.
    Take care,
    Patrick
