How did QPR become so popular in the States?

There seems to be a (relatively) large number of QPR supporters in the US. I've met more QPR fans in my life than Arsenal fans. Am I imagining this? If not how did the club come to be so big in the US?

    Theories?

Partly that Jurgen Sommer was one of the first Yanks abroad in England, and US fans seem to gravitate towards teams with Americans on them.

Partly that QPR is a West London team (and not that expensive to go out to see), and most Americans who go over to London end up in Central/West London, within striking distance of Loftus Road.

Partly that the Americans you've met have impeccable taste. :)

Didn't QPR win the FA cup or play in the FA final as a second division team in the early 1970's or 1980's? It was on TV here in the states and that could have captured the imagination of impressionable teenagers like myself (at that time).

QPR lost the '81 FA Cup final to Glenn Hoddle led Spurs...though i didnt realize that was shown in the states. I was 11 and had just discovered MTV myself. :)

For me it was the combo of Roy Wegerle and the hoops!
