I missed the game but am a big fan of Adin getting on the Nats. How did he do in the opener?

Adin's a Big Time player, and he's coming into his own.

What's nice is that he's got a very nice backline parked in front of him, too.

His defensive goalkeeping is fantastic. The penalty kick save he made was awesome.

His distribution is still crap. He had more than a couple of really AWFUL clearances. If he got that sorted out, he could go to England and play for Arsenal. :D

I still can't figure him out. Most of the time he looks like he's just throwing his body at shots that seem to hit him somewhere and don't go in. Makes you wonder if he's good or just lucky. The catch is, he does it all the time and it seems to work most all the time. So maybe it's not luck?

He made a good save on the penality kick.

Don't think the Nats are in his future though. Too many very good ones ahead of him and he does tend to give up rebounds at times. All a formula for no time with the Nats. Plus Bruce already looked at him once and didn't use him. I think that was it for him and the Nats

that is b/c he is huge!

i saw him sunday in chicago <was at the game near the sideline> and the man is the biggest beast i have ever seen on a soccer field...no wonder shots just do not get by the guy, he practically covers the whole goal with his height and wingspan.

he is an amazing specimin of a goalie.

As JMMUSA8 said, Adin was hurt during the last Nats camp, so it's hard to judge his standing. Still, it's going to be tough to break in, and not because of Brown's abilities - there's a serious glut of good keepers in the USA. Aside from the usual suspects (Friedel & Keller), there's Howard, Thornton, Jordan, Hartman, Rimando, and Cannon (and more, I'm sure) who could all make legitimate claims on a future Nats roster spot. Brown may not get to play much for the USA, but it's less a reflection on him and more a reflection on the 'State of the Union', so to speak.

nobody has mentioned this but he is amazingly quick. It is not just his size, because Thrornton and Ian Feuer are both also huge, but not nearly as good as Brown. He is just shockingly quick for a giant.I, for one, DO think he may feature for the USA.His size, quickness and ferocity are just off the scale. One play sticks in my mind- when he gave up the goal to LA in MLS Cup 2002, Ruiz was all alone in front of goal, put the ball against the run of the play, right into the side netting- Brown STILL almost got it!!He gave up a goal but I have no seen this play 20 times on TV and am still amazed that he even almost got that shot.
Personally, after the big two of Friedel and Keller, I would go with Howard and Brown-we have lots of other good ones, but those two will be internationally famous keepers.

One aspect of his distribution that I really like is how he throws the ball. He can easily whip it over half the length of the field, and often does. It's often better to throw than to kick because there is better control and the ball stays lower and gets there quicker.

I heard they were calling him Chewiebaka in Chicago. I like that nicname for him. He should start styling himself after him.

He is as big as Thornton, as quick as Howard.Nice combination.

After watching today's Columbus game, I have to agree with Mike Toole about Brown's distribution. Brown's great at stopping shots and he's very quick -- remarkably so for a man his size.

But why can't he kick or punt the ball past midfield? It's a real disadvantage when the opponent starts at midfield most of the time. Maybe he can throw it farther than he can kick it.

Did you know Adin has a beard?

What is it about that page an beards? Three mentions that he has a beard, not to mention a photo for anyone who didn't already know.

So anyone think he'll get the start? Seeing as this is a bit of a grudge match, what are the odds of Arena switching keepers at the half?

FWIW, I think Mexico is sidestepping the "grudge match" issue, by bringing in only 2 WC02 players.

Maybe he's done it before, but I don't recall Arena switching keepers in a non-injury situation.

Right, that's what I was saying. I don't remember Arena doing this very often, and Howard seems to be in favor these days. Who knows, but I only see one of them playing tonight

Start for Tim Howard. No change at the half.
