Its a dilemna. I don't want to give a single cent to this worthless team. They lie to me (and not about the stadium but customer related things) and then blame me, can't build a stadium (lie about that too), don't value me, give me rude service, and now are trying to ruin the only thing that draws me to the matches-the ESC. We have a young, exciting team, founded on American talent that I am really excited about. Gaven, Leitch, Parke, Magee, Wolyniec are all Bob Bradley's guys-when did we ever develop players like that? Gilberto and Cornell Glenn-young up and comers. Gueverra and Pope, solid veterans. But Nick and the management.......... So, how can I support this team-without supporting its ineptness. I plan on making one match next year-the home opener-and I expect it to be played in another dull and lifeless stadium. Woopee.
Re: How can I support Metro with supporting the management? I've been wondering this myself. Here's what I have come up with: 1. Join the ESC and take the bus trips. 2. Attend watch parties at NH's. 3. Watch games on MSG, and the Metro Soccer Report. If you're a Nielsen rating household, this is a must. Otherwise, e-mail MSG saying how much you appreciate the coverage. 4. Do not attend games at GS unless you're not paying for the tickets. 5. Write a letter to Kevin Payne saying what you're doing and explaining why. Despite the complete ineptitude of MFO, there are still organizations connected to this team and this league worth supporting -- MLS in general, the ESC, Nathan Hale's, and MSG. If I'm going to put my time and money anywhere, it will be in those places that are not deliberately lying to me about my team.
Re: How can I support Metro with supporting the management? Why would you write to Kevin Payne? Sachin
Re: How can I support Metro with supporting the management? Because I'm an idiot. Payne is back at DC full-time, and Tim Leiweke is Nick's boss now.
Re: How can I support Metro with supporting the management? Or....... ya'll join the ESC, pool some $$ to make a big banner showing visual displeasure towards the MFO, but yet still supporing the players on the field.
Re: How can I support Metro with supporting the management? By MLS standards, the MetroStars under Bradley are middle of the pack. Consider how DC went from dregs to champion in a year and how Chicago and San Jose went from the MLS Cup to crap in a year, we're not too different on the field than any team in the league...only we're really, really young. On the management side, however, Metro is bottom of the table. We all know, in reality, our attendance is no better than KC or SJ, we just lie more. As for atmosphere, I haven't been to every stadium in the league, but from what I've seen on TV, Giants Stadium is the worst atmosphere in the league, and it's not even grass. We're mired exactly where we were in 1997, when the initial MLS euphoria had worn off and it was time to sell an American soccer league. The time has come for AEG to do something about the "New York" franchise. Status quo will not suffice when it comes to the stadium, the field, the presentation of MLS in the league's largest market. The truth must come out. Nick Must Go...but MLS must stay.
Re: How can I support Metro with supporting the management? that does sound like the best plan but...ull still be paying to g2 games and thats all management cares about. its a shame that the players might have to play with less support but they should just look at their bosses for the reason y.
Re: How can I support Metro with supporting the management? I know you have a hard-on for all things ESC, but really-all Metro cares about is the bottom line. If I don't show up, they'll be missing the money I would have brought in, not the support. They wouldn't mind 70k fans a game, even if it was quiet. Forget it, Metro gets my tickets for one game this year, the home opener, and thats it. That is when the faithful unite, thats all I care about right now. I find it hard to dress up in team colors anymore-I don't connect with the team. Maybe I am turning metrosexual, but I also don't like this team much anymore-and its not about the losing.
Re: How can I support Metro with supporting the management? It seems as though we have a lot in common Let me know if I can help at all. -Tony H SSV Founder
Re: How can I support Metro with supporting the management? [changed to "without" , because I think that's what you meant]
Don't spite yourself. Go to as many games as you want. Just do not commit to season tickets. Then call MFO and their ticket guys to explain why.
Re: How can I support Metro with supporting the management? Good idea.... If you guys are doing that make sure you hit me up for a few bucks. I can spare a couple for the cause.
