So bad that Kevin ("I can't control the game, but I'll give you a yellow card for pointing it out") Stott is one of the finalists for Referee of the Year! I figure it's a foregone conclusion that Brian Hall will get the nod, but that Kevin Stott's name even comes up is just sad.
They suck about as much as your average LA fan and have the brains to match. Bottom of the barrel as far as the world wide leagues go.
Actually, I thought Stott had a pretty good game the other night. I know he didn't pull out a yellow when it looked like he should, but despite that he didn't lose control of the game, and in the end that's what matters. And besides the controversial no-calls on the yellows, he didn't miss too much else IMHO (the potential PKs were 50-50 or less and probably shouldn't have been called in such a tight and important match). As for the linesman OTOH...

I would guess that someone had some serious discussions during halftime. Noticed how much less brutal the second half was? The east side AR was horrible, though he didn't deserve the death threats he was getting.
There are very few good refs in the league. However, I really thought the ref for the 11/9 game VS LA did a great job. He let the guys play, but didn't let it get out of control. Now, the linesman VS KC should never step on the field again. He was horrible, but then again...everybody makes mistakes. I thought the ref did a pretty good job. He could have tossed out a lot of cards, which could have screwed things up for us this weekend. There are a lot of refs that wouldn't have cared if it was the playoffs, and would have just started throwing cards out. At least he talked to the players and obviously let them know what was on the line after that second little shoving match.
Kevin Stott should be referee of the year. He was able to control a potentially rough game without having to give a card in the 90 and only 2 cards total. There could have been a lot more BUT he didn't need to. If he started to give cards left and right like you guys wanted they would've lost all meaning and somebody would have to be ejected (which is something nobody wants) and would have made the situation worse. He controls the game in a way that no team gains an advantage they shouldn't have and he's very consistent which is something EVERYBODY wants. Plus he knows more about the LOTG than you probably ever will.
You are joking right? I mean please tell me you just forgot to drop in the sarcastic emoticon! If he'd pulled out the cards when he first needed to, then the game wouldn't have gotten anywhere near as chippy. The only thing he is consistent at is mediocrity. I was sitting in the stands thinking "I am glad that Garber is here to witness this train wreck in person." As for the linesperson, the guy had a deer-in-the-headlights look the entire second half. Useless!! His body langauage seemed to scream "Don't let them lose this on my blown call." I think he was the most relieved person on the fiield. Most of the youth leagues are having their season-ending tournaments, might be a little more comfortable over there. DORK!!
guh? Were you guys at the game? I assume you were there because there was nothing in the replays, with the angles of view, that could say either way on those offsides call. Most of the TV shots didn't even have the necessary elements in the frame to make a judgement. (The ball, the player in question, and all the relevant defenders.) What did you guys that were there see? The TV audience couldn't agree or disagree. An unbiased Revs fan thinks the game was a good one, though. Stott did alright.
I thought they were both offsides, but I'm not 100% about the first one. The second was offsides without question....and yes I was there. I also watched the tape the next day. You're right about the TV angles....Although you could tell, it wasn't as obvious as it was in person.
The second K.C. goal was absolutely offsides. Section 129 was outraged and a lot of people started screaming at the AR, which made it hard for me to focus on the game. I thought the center at the 11/9 game was better than Stott, and it was initially upsetting to see some of those blatant assaults go uncautioned. But most fouls were called, so we knew he saw many of them, and in retrospect I see it would not have been the best tactic to hand out a lot of cautions to cup-bound players. The fact that the second half was calmer suggests that Stott got the message across somehow.
I was at the game and lined up in the position the linesman should have been on both calls. The first one I thought was onside at the time, and slo-mo'd the replay at home-thought it was onside even more so. The second one I didn't get a good look at, but my wife did. Offsides. Worst yet, the linesman was way behind both plays and in no position to make either call. Absolutely terrible.
Not to mention the offsides he didn't call about five minutes after the 2nd goal where even the Ultras at the other end could see he was offsides, but the linesman couldn't BECAUSE HE WAS LOOKING DOWN AT THE GROUND while running down the sideline! Fortunately, that didn't result in a goal, or there would have been real trouble.
Agoos deserved one for sure. I would agree that the outcome was desireable. He obviously had no intention of throwing a player out for being "chippy." He wasn't bad. Get a load of those La Liga refs sometime. Red cards seem to measure the length and breadth of ref's penis.

Is it true that when LA fans attend Galaxy practices that they raise the average IQ both inside and outside the HDC? And, does your work in cancer explain the complete collapse of the Galaxy last week? Looking forward to an "average" reply. This thread has turned remarkably boring. I thought we'd have a lot of Dangerfield-esque lines like, "Whoa, the MLS refs are so bad, they couldn't even judge a Chinese election." Or something corny along those lines...
On your last point. We are looking into the amazing regenerative capacities of Carlos' cells after taking blows where the bruising seems to have vanished before he even reaches the sideline. It may help others in the future.

I was there as well in section 111 (Westside center). The Eastside AR missed the second goal offside call because he was looking down at the line and running to try and keep up with the play. In fact, he pretty much did that the entire match. I'm kinda surprised the Quakes didn't get a missed call in the first half... however we do tend to drop back for passes and play shorter balls. Not to mention the first half was a bit slower than the second. His ovation when he finally called a correct offside was classic Kudos to the Eastside fans who understand the law and tried to teach him. I thought the CR did a much worse job in person than he actual did (after watching the game on Tivo). There were four possible calls in the box that I throught he should have called. Only one was clear foul (the one against Dayak where he was pulled down by his shirt in front of Fat Tony... the one where Dayak got his yellow card). The others looked more incidental. And the annoucers on FSW are idiots... we need Waynalda up there to tell it how it is. I also thought he was going to loose control of the entire match after the Donovan scuffle if he didn't card everyone involved, but that worked out aok in the end. Did anyone notice that first handball call in the Northwest corner where Donovan chested the ball down and the CR called in from the center circle with only a view of Donavan's back? I thought we were in real trouble after that. I'm glad he let both teams play because it ended in a fast paced, skilled game.
I had a youth ref once tell me(after a game we had won 2-1) that in an important tie game, there would basically have to be bloodshed in the box before he would give a PK. That is kinda the way I felt about a few non-calls in the box. Don't get me wrong, I still stood and screamed at the ref, cuz that's what I do but deep down I was happy there were not that many cards and no PK's. The one goal was way offside(klein).....the Simuntenkov goal was not, Waibel was holding him on, STEP UP CRAIG, STEP UP!!! OH NO!!! Any match where a linesman effects the outcome as the idiot almost did on the Klein goal should be considered a bad game. Ironically, he made it a more thrilling game, it doesn't get any better than a golden goal.....so mr linesman/asst......we thank you for that golden moment.....idiot! PS-What is up with linesman running with the head down?
I guess the embarrassment of slipping and falling in front of 16,000 is worse than missing an obvious offsides...Nimrod.
