Now that the holiday season has passed and the upcoming MLS season is around the corner, I was wondering how season ticket sales are going around the country?

I know K.C. has set a pretty ambitious goal, L.A. has a new stadium coming, and Columbus usually leads the league in season ticket sales.

If you have any info. it would help satisfy my curiosity.

    Happy New Year!!!

Real poor here....the office seems to be closed. It's now a consultant's office for 'How to F*** Up Professional Sports Franchises'...some guy named Horowitz stenciled on the glass....

You league apologizers would like us to go away. Unfortunately (or maybe annoyingly for you), our job is to remind you of past failures so that you and your surviving franchises are not doomed to repeat them.

    Happy New Year!

    So nothing's changed then?

But you're right-- if MLS hasn't learned that it needs to have committed owners with deep pockets for every team, then we are in trouble.

cry me a river... no, better yet... an ocean. my state never had a team and neither has 80% of this country. you got your chance and south florida couldn't support soccer... big deal. go to a d-rays or marlins game instead. oh wait... deja vu?

I repeat, "those who do not learn from history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them"...this is simply a public service announcement for the league's remaining fans, teams and of course HQ.

Do you actually think I believe that ranting here would actually help a team return to the area? Don't flatter yourself.

What do you believe we believe you are attempting to achieve with all this ranting then?

Don't blame the league. The fans down in Miami sucked. You guys had a great team yet all the fans stayed home. What do you want the guy to do. Get a limo for each fan and bring them to the stadium?? C'mon he wasn't perfect but Miami sports market is terrible. Good move by MLS.

    Fusion Belly-aching thread

I vote we change this to the "Miami Fusion belly-aching thread" until we get a few more season ticket posts...

"those who do not learn from history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them" ???

Yes, I think MLS has learned from the mistakes of the old NASL where teams moved/died/expanded at the drop of a hat... Tampa had 6 years to succeed, Miami had 4 years... I think they are also learning that ownerless franchises are a bad idea... and that franchises with a coveted SSS should be drawing more than 10K and certainly more than 11K for a winning, entertaining team.

In my mind, Tampa and Miami were no different than half the teams in the league-- KC, SJ, Dallas, and until the last season or two, Denver with fan support that was mediocre at best.

And not far behind are the 2 cities in the deepest red ink this year-- NYC and Chicago. Neither team looks even close to getting a SSS... but could you see a league seeking a "national footprint" survive without franchises in those 2 markets? Probably not.

It was a business decision. Right now, MLS is ONE business... not TWELVE separate ones. Close the "stores" that are a drain on your bottom line, keep your high cost/high profile "stores" intact, open up new ones (and re-open old ones) when the time is right...

And hope to god Anschutz doesn't get sick of "mindin' the store" :)

A story in the Kansas City paper said that the Wizards are about a third of the way toward their stated goal of 7000-and-some season tickets. This is less than the total they sold last year, but of course there's still several months before the season starts. I wish they'd made a comparison with the number of tickets sold by the same date, as that would have been more meaningful.

"And, as of Friday, the Wizards had sold 2,468 full-season season-ticket equivalents (FSEs). That's fewer than the 3,416 season tickets the club sold last season and a third of the way toward the goal of 7,316. But there are still roughly four months before the season-opening game."

Can anyone remember when this campaign began?
Because it feels like (with four months to go) good progress is made.

On the other hand, how many of the 2,468 is just the same people renewing up from last year?

At any rate, I think the Crusaders idea is wonderful, keep up the good work!

The KC Season Tix number isn't so bad when one considers that the schedule hasn't been released. Give it time.

I hope that the Fire increases their totals from last year. I think they are shooting for at least 5,000. But I have read anything on where they are compared to last year. But I would have to guess that they are way ahead, due to the fact that they didn't have a stadium until the end of January.

I renewed my two seats just before the end of the season. I also purchased a DC United flex pack to make sure that I make it back for a couple of games this season.

    Full season ticket equivalents.

Half season tickets count, but they count half.
