Ok, he's out in RSL, he's trialed in Dallas but does not have a contract. Shouldn't Yallop invite him to SJ for a tryout? The guy reminds me of Brian Mullan. He's feisty, runs all day and not particularly big. He's been a forward, can score goals, but at this level, I think he'll have to develop into an outside back on the right side. Yallop has done it before, why not now? Jamie was "graduated" from Gen 40, so he'll have to negotiate a senior contract. He's not going to cost much (moneyball!), has experience and I'm sure he's motivated to prove Kries is an idiot. What's not to like about that? I would put him up against what we have now and see how he shapes up.
I agree, bring him out on trial. It can't hurt unless he is the ghost of Devin Barclay. Devin, BTW, is kicking Field Goals for Ohio State. http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/Vi...&DB_OEM_ID=17300&ATCLID=1151187&Q_SEASON=2007
I remember him coming into a game for RSL against the Quakes at Spartan (2004 or 2005) and he caused lots of problems, and eventually scored I think. I agree that it's probably worth bringing him in to camp for a look.
I never thought much of him. So meh. Wont cry if we pick him up, since we still have spots to fill, but I have no real interest in him.
Watson could be a decent pick up, looking as we need to fill roster spots & holes. He wasn't really given a chance to shine in Salt Lake. I think with a bit of motivation he could be turned into the next Mullanish player. He's very fast & young, so it would be a nice addition, anything is better than Joe Vide & Chris Pozniak. I often find my self Comparing Jamie Watson to Scott Bower.
Actually, since he's still only going to be 22 this year, he is eligible for a regular developmental contract. So he could be really cheap, although I wonder if he would accept a developmental contract. According to the MLS Players Union Website, he made $50k last year on his Generation Adidas contract. Of course, if he doesn't have any other options, who knows.
He is, because he has family there. He MIGHT accept a Dev contract to play in Dallas (because of expenses), but if not, then I don't think they will use a roster spot and pay him senior money. On the other hand, we could use some bodies. He has more potential then most of our supplemental draft picks (he was scoring some goals in College as a freshman and sophomore). I'm just hoping we call him up and give him the option to try out if Dallas won't give him a roster spot. I know people are going to say "well, if he's not good enough for Dallas, he's not good enough for us", but come on......we're in a situation where we could use some players with low cap numbers AND MLS experience. Jamie would be a good solution. By all accounts, he was GREAT in the community in Salt Lake. He's young, feels like he got a raw deal in RSL, and has a history of working his tail off. Yeah, Mullan lite would be a good description. Let Ian Russell work with him about converting to right mid and we might have a good player for many seasons.
Hey, you guys hit it on the head! After all that has happened, I can't say supporter or RSL, but I have had season tickets from day one. You WOULD want Jamie on your team for a number of reasons. He gives his all when he plays and always created chances when he was on the field. He plays hard, the kid needs a coach and veteran players to work with him to fine tune his play, and give him a chance. Off the field he is worth his weight in gold! Does assemblies for kids, stays after every game to sign autographs, co-hosted charity events. Never had that "I am to good to be botherd" attitude. We as fans even hope he comes back and kicks Jason's butt too, he got screwed!
FWIW, I don't think there is any way he makes FCD's roster unless he is willing to take a developmental contract. I don't know the guy personally but becasue FCD has a boatload of players trialing right now (and he is probably only in Dallas because of family), I would think he would jump at the chance to try out for another MLS squad, especially San Jose with your plethora of roster space.
