Fox Sports World televises Soccer games from the MLS, A-League, to the Youth finals, could be a nice arranjament for both the NCAA and Fox Sports World, I Know at the moment ESPN got the rights for the finals of the Men's and the Ladies.
That sounds like a great idea. The only problem I could see occuring is the television contract. Regular season NCAA television contracts are negotiated by the conferences so the ESPN part should not matter. For this to work, the major soccer conferences would have to form a coalition and agree to rotate from conference to conference on a week to week basis. College football used to operate that way with the College Football Association. One week they show the Virginia-UNC game, the next week they show UCONN-Notre Dame, the next week they go to some big MVC game, or they show the UNC-Duke women's game. With most of the major conferences already having football or basketball contracts with FOX Sports Net, I'm sure they could somehow bundle soccer. Plus, ESPN and the NCAA would probably happy getting essentially free advertisement for the College Cups.
Great news. The ACC schedule this Fall is not firm yet because several matches are being moved to Friday nights for live Fox Soccer Channel broadcasts.
This is HORRIBLE news. Now people who do the unfounded bashing of how college soccer ruins American players will have evidence to ummm...errr back themselves up. I mean look how it practically ruined James Riley and Tim Ward and Jeff Parke, Benny Feilhaber and Marvell Wynne's careers.
Might want to pick examples other than Ward (one season), Feilhaber (two seasons) and Wynne (likely gone after two seasons) to point out the merits of college soccer. Parke is a good example but better ones are Pat Noonan, Cory Gibbs, Brian Ching, Jimmy Conrad, Jeff Cunningham and, among some rooks, Chris Rolfe, Bobby Boswell, Ugo Ihemulu and Scott Sealy, all of whom played for seasons of college ball. Having said that, the reality is that the majority of the elite of the elite of US soccer players are either skipping college ball altogether or leaving after 1-2 seasons. Project a 2010 WC roster and tell me how many of the players you realistically think will be on the team will have played more than 2 seasons of college ball. Great news about the Friday night games, BTW. Can't wait.
If you get the cable package for FSC that includes the three Fox College Sports channels, you'll see more college soccer than you can handle.
I always thought CSTV and Fox sports college show a LOT of soccer. I'm not sure, because I only got those channels a few months ago. Right now, they love to replay women's soccer.
That is great news about games on Fox Soccer Channel. It's much needed and long over due. Sandon has made some very good points about college soccer and the players in it not evolving etc. The problem with soccer in the US is that kids coming out of high school don't really have any other options other then playing college soccer. It they are not good enough to make a national team or go ove to europe what other options do they have to continue. There are no semi pro leagues or lower division pro leagues to play in, youth clubs don't have adult teams for players to advance to so really they're aren't too many other choices.
CSTV showed roughly 1 match a week last season - and some conference tournament coverage that was a little more extensive. The FCS channels all showed 1-2 matches a week, and several of the conference finals were available, for both men's and women's games. And yes, they replay stuff a lot in the offseason. They've had a different Pac-10 football game on every evening this week.
What about ESPNU? Does anyone know if they're expected to carry games? I know they will broadcast way too much (pointy) football, but I was hoping they'd show some soccer games. I'd love it if Fox Soccer Channel carried games! I also know that Comcast in the DC area traditionally carried some games, though that doesn't quite help the national audiences. By the way, Penn State has lined up some live and tape delay television broadcasts. They are supposed to announce it later this month. I have no idea what channels they'd use (Comcast, Fox Sports Pittsburgh, local, etc.) but it'd be great. I know their games at Maryland and hosting Indiana were on TV last year.
I was told by someone at a NIU game last week that Comcast is going to televise the NIU vs Northwestern game. He said that some guy named Krueger is a friend of the program @ NIU and an exec @ Comcast.
Is that Fox Sports World that those games are on or FSC or Comcast? I know Maryland has been on CN8 in the past.
