That would be perfect. I love this logo. I'm inclined to say it's the most traditional and classy one in MLS to date. I'm very, very pleasantly surprised. Hopefully, the kits will display the same originality and class.
Come on baby, do the locomotion with me! I have to say, I don't want another orange-blue team out there. I grew up in the land of SEC football and I can't stand Auburn, and now I live in Denver and can't stand the Broncos. So if Houston goes with orange and blue---oh wait, I'm not gonna like them anyway. Nevermind! My pavlovian reaction to orange & blue will continue to serve me well.
Remember, we said the same thing about the RSL logo. The logo they came out with for their kits was great, then they went with the stupid badge with the giant "REAL" on top. The badge worn by the GK is the good one not the "REAL" badge. The RSL only logo is very sharp. Hopefully Houston doesn't pull that crap and put "HOUSTON REPUBLIC" on top of the logo. I like the HR FC, its classy. We'll see.
Supposedly, not being from that side of the Republic... ....state, but FCD's badge is reflective of Frisco's history in the cattle trade:
they just lifted the colors from monopoly. tennesee, new york avenue and st. james place for the orange; oriental, vermont and connecticut avenue for the blue. brilliant color scheme, hehe.
Don't forget the railroad. I guess supporters clubs will have to named Water Works and the Electric Company. Sachin
The maltese cross is a tribute to the City of Chicago fire department and there is a six pointed star poking out from behind the center circle that is symbolic of the second six pointed star on the City of Chicago flag, which represents the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. peter
Well, aside from the whole Chicago Fire historical theme; and the badge shape based on a CFD maltese cross; there is the Chicago (6-pointed) Star, the "C" monogram which is common among Chicago sports organisations, and the colors - the red (in the logo, which is different from the uniform red) is nearly identical to the official civic red. This likely wasn't intentional but the Fire navy, which is only really used in the logo as well, is the same as Bears navy. Houston's is (potentially) a lot bolder, I'll give them that. chicago historical junkie, fire fan, and graphic designer. this is like the nexus of my interests here...
I figured as much. I was actually rather surprised when I found out. You'll be even less happy to know the logo red is nearly CUBS red.
PBS has this also to say on S. Houston's connection to the Cherokee's: So...Awo could mean "White-Guy-Who-Drinks-Chingos-of-Schlitz".
The ECHL's Lexington Men O' War was a legit competition open to fans. (It's a play on Man O'War, one of the great horses and a typical horse kop-out that Kentucky teams seem to be saddled (boom boom) with every time). It's also one of the worst names I ever heard. ECHL = 'AA' Hockey.
Hope I didn't miss it earlier in the thread, but do you think there is any drawback on reminding Mexican-Americans about the "1836" fiasco of Santa Anna and lost territory? Reducing fanship from hispanic fans? Kind of a dig in a way. From a marketing perspective wouldn't MLS want to stay away from it? My opinion is I like "1836" alot.
