Now all we need is San Antonio to start a Green team, and we could really see some passion in MLS. ;)

I dig it. Looks a little like UCLA or the Chargers (but with a touch more Orange).

Claret and Sky aren't really all that ideal, but after a while they become addictive, and there are two teams with those colors in the EPL.

Thanks for saying it. I don't understand why "traditionalists" insist on wanting to have every name spelled in the way that some other country would spell it. We're not in Russia. We spell it Locomotive. Geez.

Nearly albaceleste -- like the blue in the Argentina and Uraguay shirts and flags.

I too, am worried that this name may somewhat isolate the hispanic fans in Houston. It's too bad because I think the name and the shield are freakin awesome.

Well, at least you're in good company, Peter.

As you might know, Brushes was on the line a fair amount with espn.com's reporter at WC 02:

I don't know that the Chicago Fire or DC United identities have isolated their hispanic fans. Good imagery is good imagery. And the only language in the logo is freaking Cherokee.

Can someone explain that, BTW? What's the connection with ravens and Houston?

Sam Houston's Cherokee name was Raven.

Got it. Just given this run-out I think perhaps aside from Chicago, no US club badge incorporates civic imagery as much as this one, and it should be applauded if and when it comes to pass.

Civic pride is a big part of club identity and local connection for fans, business, and more.

The home jersey will probably be orange and black. The away will probably be sky blue and white.

    Ahem...

    GRAPHIC DESIGNERS make logos.

I should know. I study that stuff.

I could add: the shield is a little too busy, but good research was done. The light blue does not mix well with the orange due to lack of contrast even though orange and blue are complementary colors. Darken the blue to a royal tone and it's good to go. The typography is OK but I would try other fonts. The train itself alone would work. The circle shape with the striaght top is weird. They could have used a typical shield shape like say, the NFL but with less width or the RSL shape, with the black border, orange inside with the blue sea motif below and the train over the orange, and HRFC 1836 in one of those folded thingies (can't recall the name, sorry about that) but anyway the logo/shield can be better...

Exactly what civic imagery is there in the Chicago badge?

It looks like the Miami Dolphins' uniforms from Tecmo Bowl.

    I dig it.

You'd have to ask ppl a little more familiar w/ Texas Latinos, but from what I can tell, more Texas Mexicans buy into the mythology of the Republic b/c a central theme of the Alamo and the Republic era is the tenet of inclusion in the nascent Texan identity. The reality, on the other hand... that's a different story.

However, b/c of the importance of the myth of "inclusion", many, many more land-owning Mexicans (ppl who in a matter of a couple of decades went from being Spanish to Mexican to Texan to Americans  ) were able to keep their land. The result is that Houston has a very long tradition of wealthy, influential Latino businessmen and politicians.

In California, that simply was not the case. After the war and after losing half of its land, the Mexican capitol was a disaster. When Californios went to try to prove that land was theirs, they were forced to go to Mexico City to prove it. These trips were extremely expensive (they'd have to be down there a minimum of 6 months) and extraordinarily ineffective. The result: Californias land-owning Latinos were peasants w/in 10 years of becoming US citizens. Only in the last 20 years have Latinos begun to make waves politically.

LA had not had a Latino mayor in its entire as part of the US!!

In short... I believe that it won't be as much of a problem for Texas Mexicans, as they'll buy into the whole myth of the Republic.

If that is the actual logo/badge for Houston, I'm all for it.

I think it looks great, and really like the locomotive and the AWO.

The next time you see Marsteller, ask him if he changed his pager number
after an intrepid individual acquired it through clandestine means.... :)

And if anyone knows how to get in touch w/ Michael Davies, obviously
it's required that I track him down again and speak to him while he
    is actually in Germany. :)

True, but they could also be pulling a Dallas where they’ve already chosen and we have to guess what they’ve picked.
