Hey - what does a Houston fan look like, anyway? How about a rogue, sloppy, foul bunch posing as Houstonians making an unholy ruckus about the place, spilling out onto the pitch with pies in hand, finding appropriate Filth targets to the horror of all live and telecast viewers, escaping into the night, not to be discovered as heretofore invisible Quakes fans? What would Max Bretos say (duh - something painfully stupid).
Though if that game is televised (and I'm sure that it will be), AEG will make damn sure that the cameramen and soundmen take no notice of the big blue section whatsoever, similarly to how SJ-LA games at packed Spartan Stadium televised by local LA stations or Fox Sports Net West would only mic the visiting LA section of 100-200 (or however many there were there) visiting fans and make it seem like they were the only ones making any noise in the stadium. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Once the schedule comes out, I hope everyone finds that first visit of H-town to the Galaxatives and seriously considers making this trip--if for no other reason than to salute Dom and our guys. I think it would be some great fun....a terrific opportunity for us all to get together and do what we love again. Who can say no to a good old fashioned, care-free road trip? I'm looking forward to it and I don't even know the date of the game yet. I understand everyone feeling betrayed and bitter about our present state but this trip could be a lot of fun for the trip's sake...if not for soccer reasons. Think of it as a sort of "civilized hooliganism."
I saluted them on Oct. 29, and I didn't have to pay AEG confiscatory parking fees to do so. The idea of going to a Houston game in 2006 makes my stomach churn. I can. Though I don't think it would be old-fashioned nor care-free. Give the money you would spend on this trip to SSV, or your favorite charity, or spend it on a road trip to a US game.
Yes I was quite disappointed to hear that as well. About a month ago I was looking at making a trip out to Coachella this year and saw that AEG was the sponsor. Blech.
and the line-up this year sounds like it's going to be particularly good (e.g. White Stripes, Depeche Mode, Fatboy Slim, etc., etc.)...what a dilemma!
Oooh have they already released the line up? If Keane is there, I will definitely have to swallow my pride and go.
It hasn't been officially announced but this is the speculation: "April 29 Depeche Mode, The Strokes, Portishead, Franz Ferdinand, Fatboy Slim, Massive Attack, Infected Mushroom, Royksopp, Kings of Leon, Doves, Sufjan Stevens, Broken Social Scene, Atmosphere, Blackalicious, Super Furry Animals, The Buzzcocks, Primal Scream, Supergrass, Ladytron, DJ Peretz, The Shins, Dieselboy, Tortoise, Sleater Kinney, Richard Hawley, Grooverider, Death From Above 1979, Yesterday’s New Quintet, The Walkmen, Son Volt, Will Oldham, The Clientele, Lightning Bolt, Cage, The Crimea, OK Go, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, John Kelly April 30 The White Stripes, Roxy Music (featuring Brian Eno), The Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Boards of Canada, Underworld, Ween, Death Cab for Cutie, Armin Van Buuren, Built to Spill, De La Soul, Big Star, Iron & Wine, Uberzone, Happy Mondays, Dinosaur Jr, TV on the Radio, Elbow, Eagles of Death Metal, The Tears, Esthero, T. Neither are official. Keane don't seem to be on the bill (so far) but, they have a great sound. I still have their SNL appearance tivo'd and watch it occasionally, good stuff.
Keane is my favorite band! I've seen them so many times live and absolutely love them. I probably won't make the trip out there, even though that is an excellent lineup, unless they come out there. Their next CD is supposed to be done at the end of this month and they are supposed to start touring again in March, so I figured they would definitely hit up Coachella.
does anyone know if blue flares/smoke bombs are available? ive seen green and red(of course) but if anyone knows about blue...we could seriously put on a show at the toolshed. remember the 2nd time chivas came to town...i can see a repeat of that, can you? bsically....heres the checklist- 1. the Quake flag from the Casbah 2. FUAEG signs 3. LA sucks signs(or some form of) 4. Donovan is a traitor(or some form of) 5. city of houston sucks signs(or some form of) 6. BLUE FLARES! subnote...we may try to steer clear of Garber sucks signs cause he holds the power in returning MLS to SJ. 7. give us our damn team back signs would be cool though 8. 2,500 Quake fans 9. signs supporting the usual, Pat Onstad, Brian Mullen, Brian Ching, DeRo, and my personal fav. Brad Davis 10. lest we forget...some reminder that Herculez Gomez got pimp slapped by Ricardo Clark in the playoffs...and he couldnt do a thing about it.
We will be there if we can for both Houston games at HDC. Possibly even for Chivas. I figured, the first year these guys deserve to see us QUAKE fans in the stadium. No matter how much I hate MLS & hate AEG. We followed these guys to LA for five years to Los Angeles and the QUAKES since 1974, so I see this as a way to show them that we still care about them. However, we will probably only do this for the 2006 season. The way I see it now, I think we are going to have to get our soccer fix with other leagues than with the MLS. Once our soccer left, it will be impossible to bring them back. I also guarantee we will never never get baseball here either. We will ALL be wearing our Earthquake Jerseys at the USA mens game Jan 29th and Feb 10th in PacBell Park as well as in Germany at WorldCup. In fact, we will have blue t-shirts made for Germany that will * U.S. Major League Soccer SUCKS * with Anti- (San Jose) Earthquake Group on the back. Yes we are still bitter. This whole thing still hurts. Maybe I will get a tshirt made to say "GonZo Resign"
